Exhaust and other pre-remap minor mods.

Featured Replies

The purpose of my question is that before too long Im hoping to get my octy vrs remapped and wondered what other bits would go hand in hand before a custom remap.

1) exhaust, how long should I expect the oem exhaust to last time/mileage? how much does it cost to replace with stock?

Id want a replacement that wasnt a stupid bazza-boy-exhaust-trumpet but one that would offer a performance boost with the remap, rather than noise.

What gains could I expect from an exhaust and how much should I expect to pay? Im thinking midrange rather than dogs ********.

2)DV, worth the bother?

3) CAI or air filters, much potential performance gain, or just nice for pssssccchhh noises?

4) Brake pads, simple upgrade, not super dusty or disc wrecking.

There is such an array of posts out there im getting a bit bewildered, im just touting for peoples opinions.

Finally are Jabba still around? not seen any new posts mention them, and if they arnt, whos the fave/best value for custom remaps?

Thanks for the advice,

Jono

1) exhaust is a very good pre-remap mod. A custom map will make full use of this

2) DV could be done at any time. I don't think its as much of a performance mod - only for the ears ;)

3) air filter / CAI, like the exhaust, is also a good pre-remap mod. (just taking care of the intake side of the engine, compared to the exit side)

4) I have found that DS2500 pads are not too dusty (although a little more than standard) and didn't eat through my OEM discs any quicker than standard pads did. They didn't half improve the performance though.

Jabba are still around for definite, but there's others to choose from now too, JBS et.al.

A complete exhaust make-over will give you about 10-15bhp. A COMPLETE make-over that is, from the engine allllll the way to the a**.

A rollcage?

for exhausts i would recommend buying only the best.

Supersprint do complete systems from turbo back but cat pipe xpensive so i would fit

Not sure that im into spending

Standard exhaust is very expensive, IIRC.

dv...the main reason to change was previously reliability...the newer diaphragm dv are better.

Diaphragm dv are most responsive and Forge now do a replacement diaphragm dv...approx

Hi

We sell Milltek pound for pound it is very good.

Not over the top for price and the sound is awsome.

No point really putting the system on if your not going to put the CAT on as it all relies on the flow.

DV we do Forge 007P very good and reliable with Excellent aftersales.

CAI I would love to reccomend the LAN pipe.

But at the moment I am begging, pleading and pulling my hair out trying to get these.

You would think that I am wanting these for free not paying.

But I am sure when we do eventually get these you would love the sound from these.

Then a remap. You could always go for the Custom-Code Phase 2.

This would take in to account ALL the mods that have been done and then we could get the car to drive how you want.

www.custom-code.co.uk is the web site.

If I can help further please feel free to get in touch.

Myslef, pimpster and boyce have had our cars remapped, i was the only one out of the 3 to invest in a sports cat and system, and we all came out with 228bhp however my torque figures and graph was a lot stronger down all down to what i belive to be the exhuast, but in real life performance this diffrence is hardly notciable, and hardly worth the investment...if you dont want it for noise or looks...dont bother

DV repalcement is a must do the OEM will only brake due the icreased pressure, also, a CAI in terms of on paper figures you wont notice any diffrence in real life driving you may notice better pick up slightly lower down...again adding one before or after the reamap wont make that much diffrence...

The remap is all to do about turning up the turbo boost until the turbo heat fades and cannot be turned up any more...this is why bolt on bits dont show you amazing diffrences on paper... and only slight diffrences in real life...

Do the reamap change the DV and im sure you will be more then happy with the results..

Change the filter for one of the aftermarket options, change the exhaust inc the cat for a stainless option. fit a TIP and have a CUSTOM remap done not an off the shelf generic one.

MonkeyBoy is running all of the above including a boost controller and a few other bits and on full boost has a dyno print out from 2 rolling roads to show a peak output of 246bhp or there abouts.

all you really need (if you dont want to spend monster money) is decent breathing, good boost and fueling management, and decent exhaling.

As for brakes, DS2500's are the way to go from reading reviews from ALOT of users on here.
