What noise specifically?

Sounds like a Diesel engine to me!

The loud tappety noise.

It's a petrol.

Couldn't make the link work - is there a video clip with sound?

Anyway, the TSI can sound tappety.

My Golf V GTI certainly did, but that was the previous engine (TFSI).

My vRS less so (TSI) but the noise is still there!

Unless yours is very noisy, your answer may well be, "They all do that, Sir!"

I too cant hear the sound, as I have no speakers :-(

Im pretty sure I know the noise your talking about though... I have had 2 engines in my car... And both have done it so im fairly confident to say its normal.

It is very alarming though i must admit, sounds like there something wrong with it!!

Is that the noise you were talking about in this post?

Does the noise come and go, getting faster? And if you rev slightly does the noise go away then slowly start again?

The noise is always there and makes no difference if i rev the car or not.

Ah fair enough, the noise in the clip I posted has only happened once, and it was as I said above noise started slowly going faster and if you rev slightly the noise stops. I was told that's the charcoal canister doing it's thing.

Re yours, mine is a bit noisy, but normal as everyone says. I can get a clip of mine on idle to compare if you like?

Yeah that sound in the clip you uploaded has happened to mine twice but it's the normal ticking noise i'm worried about as even my old Fiesta ST sounded quieter.

If you think your car sounds the same as mine then just let me know and that would be great.

its a bit hard to tell through the phone, but mine does this - tapping noise from the right hand side as you look at it.  I've decided not to worry about it, the car runs like a dream, and the general opinion is that they are all a bit like it...

If mine blows up I'll be sure to let everyone know not to take 'que sera sera' approach like me  :)

Sounds about the same as mine mate - well IMO lol

Yeah that's exactly the same as mine. Has that loud clicking noise and then at the end of the clip i heard the other clicking noise lol.

Yeah, the clicking started just at the end there lol.

Hopefully that has put your mind at ease though :)

Yeah it has now lol.

If you hadn't said the car was a petrol, i would have said it was a diesel. I have the vrs diesel and mines sounds quiter.

I've had both, petrol is definitely still quieter than my diesel was.

I had a Yank Tank once with sticky hydraulic valve lifters that sounded just like that but that was mid-70's technology
