Is this an argument about the (boring) definition of 4X4 or whether the car is suitable for purpose?  You probably won't find many Yetis being permanently driven off road but for occasional rural excursions and overall enjoyable motoring you have to go a long to equal it.

Come on, stop being a**lly r******* and ENJOY your cars.

Fred, mines been off-road this afternoon!

Here should be an even better demo of cross axle capabilities, but unfortunately, the film skips just at the moment we are most interested in !

OH I had had one wheel in the air before at the off road day we did with Allams in 2011...  We all had one wheel in the air and the Haldex braked it fine:

See above video from 1:40 on.

^ So what was different in Scotland?  As I understand it, you had one rear wheel and two front wheels in contact with the ground, but one of the fronts was spinning - which should have been controlled by the Haldex.  Or am I wrong?   :wonder:

The weight distribution was different I guess. Also the right rear wheel had fallen INTO the ditch so was the lowest point of the car which also meant it raised the front left wheel slightly. I was too annoyed at the time to think of taking photos of the whole thing since it was getting dark and I did not want to be stuck in the middle of a forest trying to explain to the RAC where I was! Furthermore the only way out was forwards so if anyone had to come tow me out they would have had to be in front of my car - which blocked the entire path in!

Ah!  I'm with you now.  So it was, essentially, a weight distribution thing and, yes, sitting over the errant front wheel would should have sorted it.

The left rear wheel was firmly on the ground as was the right front - the diagonal wheels.  Either of those on their OWN should have managed to get the car out I would have thought...  but because the left front wheel JUST touched the ground it spun and spun and spun never getting to the point where the Haldex braked it I guess...  The hole should have been deeper!

There's a YouTube clip somewhere of comparison tests between various 4 x 4 systems - braked rollers on a short inclined track.  The Haldex (not Yeti, I think) cam out best, but I can't remember whether they took it down to single-wheel traction level.  Does anyone remember it?

Johann, did you try turning the TCS off? I get out of all sorts of odd situations by, effectively, just playing with the buttons. I am too stupid to work out all the whys and wherefors.

Yes I posted that originally.

And as to switching the traction control off. No. I never got as far as that and just built up a floor under the offending wheel. Who knows if that would have saved my bacon.

Wasn't bacon a bit slippery?

I'll get my coat on the way to the Corner.

I'm sure it wasn't just Johann being ham-fisted

Any beer left, Graham?

Just drunk the last one. Can you bring some more?

Same again?  Coming up!

Surprise, surprise.  SUK can't get ANYONE from Arnold Clark Inverness to phone them back. For a week now they have been leaving messages for someone to explain their side of the story and they steadfastly refuse to get back to SUK. Tells you all you need to know about them I think. The SUK lady said she has now "escalated the issue". Whatever that might mean.

Visit from the Czech Mafia? Reduction in their Pilsner beer quota?

It should be a letter stating that they no longer hold a SUK main dealer franchise, by the sounds of it!

Now that would be useful, and purposeful, escalation.

Hehe. Well one of the things I mentioned was that there was no dedicated Škoda customer lounge and that I had had to wait for two hours in a Volvo showroom... I hope at the very least they are forced to build a Škoda customer lounge.

I hope they get binned by Skoda and we get a different and better Skoda dealer in Inverness.

Well I know all of you have been waiting with bated breath to hear what had happened in my saga with Arnold Clark Inverness.  Well SUK struggled for weeks and weeks to get someone to call them back and escalated it, from person to person (in which organisation I don't know). Then SUK finally phoned me last week (though I had had twice weekly phone updates) to say that Arnold Clark refused to pay me anything but that they are extremely sorry for what happened and that was that. SUK was also not going to help with anything. Hmmm...  yes thanks a bunch guys.

BUT then yesterday I got home and there was a hand written envelope addressed to someone with an Edinburgh post stamp on it. The reason I say someone is that between whoever at SUK that spoke to Arnold Clark in Inverness and this Arnold Clark person in Inverness speaking to their (I presume) HQ in Edinburgh, some Chinese whispers happened to my name and surname. My name became Gohann and also swapped to form my surname with a few other things as a name.  Bless.

Well inside said envelope, without any letter and only a "With compliments" slip, was a cheque for £50 also made out to this Gohann character.  :giggle: A deliberate ruse to make the cheque unbankable? Would I have such cynic thoughts?! Well it didn't work! After explaining a bit and assuring my bank (Natwest) that I won't get any more such cheques, they cashed it! Ha!

So Gohann is happy. And yes Arnold Clark, I won't post this story in the Arnold Clark dealer section of this forum.  Amazing what a bit of goodwill can do eh? Or should I post it as the one and only good thing they've ever managed to do?  :giggle:

.... I won't post this story in the Arnold Clark dealer section of this forum....

That's generous of you in the circumstances, I think.
