Fabia VRS - Easy to forget?

Featured Replies

Watching Top Gear last night as Clarkson was saying the BMW 5 series diesel was the first diesel on their track, I remembered the Fabia VRs.

Has Clarkson lost his memory thanks to his advancing years, or is the Fabia VRs just easy to forget? (or was it on 5th gear and not Top Gear ?)

5th Gear did the shootout with the Mini at Anglesey. I think Top Gear probably have reviewed it too, but not sure if it was at Dunsfold.

The Fabia vRS you say. Nope, never heard of it.

There's an Octavia vRS but I don't know of a Fabia one. And it's a diesel? I'm sure I'd have heard about that.

:)

I didnt watch TG so watching the repeat, perhaps he meant the BMW was the first Diesel they had timed around there track?n As they didnt time the Furby?

I thought the same. They had one up against a Cooper. Skoda won

But it wasnt timed :thumbdwn:

that link wont work?

Yes it does. It must be your connection

Yes, the Fabia VRS whick beat the mini cooper on the Top Gear track WASN'T timed, it was just a straight race. But, you're quite right, it WAS the first diesel on the top gear track!

They should've put the Fabia vRS up against the CooperS so that it was a straight FI vs FI comparison...

but they wouldnt have had the same result surely !?

no offence to Fab vRS drivers out there but i doubt it would be quciker than a Cooper S round the track ...

i didnt think they had done the test on TG but remembered Hammond did it.

Of course it wouldnt have beaten a Cooper S, but....

Why does everyone keep going on about the Fabia being turbo'd and the competitors car not turbo'd? Really, the fact the Fabia is slightly more powerful but also, slightly heavier means it was a fair competition? Whats the point in racing a non-turbo'd diesel against virtually any petrol car? None that I can see - I cant think of a current non turbo diesel that can even crack 0-60 in less than 15 seconds...

The cooper S is very rapid if driven well. Alot faster than the furby, esp 0-60 which, lets face it, isnt the furbies forte.

It would be interesting to see the Octy vRS take on the Cooper (S?) around the track as well (not coz I've got something against either car, btw ;) )

I'd imagine the Octy would struggle a little with corners but trash the Cooper on the straights, but I've never driven the Octy vRS, just a standard one :(

Both programmes compared the Fab vRS to the Cooper (NOT the Cooper S) on the grounds of price similarity. The Cooper S is FAR more expensive than the Fab vRS so that wouldn't be a fair comparison at all. :)

Maybe they should have compared boot size as well ;) ;) as the Mini's is rubbish. But then again, that's a bit practical and dull.
