Thinking of getting this mk2 vrs [pics]

Featured Replies

You seem to have done your homework on the car, so you know you want an Octavia vRS

The one you buy will be dictated by the price you are willing to pay, spec and actually seeing the vehicle

Any comments from here will only be on the accuracy of the description etc and seeing it in the flesh (I'd never buy a used car without seeing it), so the ultimate decision is going to be down to you

Good luck with finding one which ticks all your boxes

Sorry guys I know I keep picking this that etc etc

I found this one as well which isn't too far away, has 70k miles but seems a lot better equipped, xenons, jumbo box, dual zone climate control, headlight washers, rear elec windows. This ones going for £6495, do you think it's worthwhile paying extra for these? I do like the addition of the armrest especially, just seems to complete the interior. I think considering the mileage it wouldn't be too unreasonable to make an offer

Does £6500 represent market value for an 07 car of that spec? I paid that for my 07/58k car over 2 years ago with xenons, cruise, Maxidot, jumbo box, light assist and 18s. It's surprising that it won't have taken quite the hit that I thought it might.

Skodadood. I was looking at that one 2months ago. Again the cambelt hasn't been done or hadn't when I enquired. Have you spoken to your local Skoda dealer to see if they can help?

Or you can wait a wee bit more, I'm sure a few more will come across with a better spec in that price range. I had to travel 200 miles from Bristol to pick up my VRS.

I would hold out for a better spec, a higher mileage with a good history and the important work done is better than a lower mileage IMO.

I paid £4250 last year for a 97,000mile 07 vrs estate tdi, granted it required abs pump and cambelt but its very well spec'd up.

the blue one you looked at, was it a 56 plate 78,000 mile one for £5,000 from a small dealer in scotland if so i can help you out with that as I viewed it.

as for the blue 57 plate with 70 odd k on the clock i think its a "bit" over priced to be honest.

Ill say again i got 57 plate 57,000 mile one, 17 inch wheels (damaged mind you), few scratches on body, dual climate thingy, arm rest box thing, no idea actually about electric windows in the back doesnt bother me. for £5200 private with a proven dyno 253 bhp remap and full service history. lets say the remap cancels out the xeons thats a £1300 mark up for a car with 30,000 miles more.

the prices of them is all over the place, if you can wait id wait for a cheaper one. Remember there is little point buying from a small dealer if its 200 miles away for a 3 month warranty as your hardly going to travel back up to get a discs changed etc if they are warped.

I had eyes on a better spec’d older one for £800 less but to be honest a roof is a luxury to me, I come from the world of bikes, xeons, maxi dot and electric windows in the back mean jack **** to me but if thats what you want from the car hold out if you can

Actually Rob makes a good point.

I knew mine needed a cambelt and the a/c compressor was knackered - I think the guy selling it knew the a/c was gone, I didn't let on that I knew and I just waited for him to come back to me and offer me the car at the price I wanted to pay, which was quite a lot less than they were going for in that spec and mileage. I didn't find many with xenons back then and I wasn't prepared to compromise.

should add that car 1 on the dealers website it shows the inside in a different view.

the drivers seat is badly ripped and worn

Seriously I can't believe the prices that people are paying for VRS petrols of that vintage compared to the trade in offers I got years ago.

£6k, I'd bite you hand off and run away laughing. And I'm not even thinking of selling.

When the car was 3yr old (36k) just out of the PCP deal I was offered £7500 by the dealer I bought it from

When it was 5 (60k) I was offered £4700 at a couple of places.

Are they really that rare?

Are they really that rare?

I don't think they're that rare - anything approaching and above 100k miles looks to be around £4000-4500.

There's an 08 plate one owner car with 54k in Birmingham at £5450 but it's poverty spec.

It looks like the options dictate the price of these and cars with Maxidot, Xenons, Climate/Jumbo/Rear e/windows seem to command the highest prices (whether they achieve them at sale is another story) but purely based on these prices, mine hasn't lost any value in 2 years, which is bizarre.

Id say for the money its more about condition, mileage and service history than toys.

To put in perspective.....

Maxidot....nice but hardly essential

Manual AC.....again 2 zone is nice but it still has AC and less likely to break.

Armrest.....if you really must have it Jumbo box can be retrofitted i am sure

Rear elec wins....again nice to have but something else less to go wrong.

Cruise...literally a new stalk and coding and its done.

At the end of the day the first car seems a v honest (if the photos and description are to be believed) TSFi and they are becomming harder and harder to come by in pre FL.

id go for the 1st car.

There is about 5 in total up here in Scotland for sale.

they just dont seem to pop up often. My mate works in arnold clark he says " if we get one in its gone within 48 hours."

2 adverts i seen from dealers with good mileage - gone 24 hours later low spec models.

Thanks for all the replies once again, given me alot to think about.

Am still looking at this one http://www.nescocars.co.uk/used-cars/122/skoda-octavia/ but are finding it hard to justify spending £6k on something that poorly specced. Sure its got low mileage etc, but the wear and tear seems to suggest other wise and kinda seems a bit dodgy, as pointed out the seats are really worn in and the fact the floor mats have holes in them gives me cause for concern. I'll hold out for a good one as recommended.

You can get a bargain if you look. I got a '57' 08 Vrs in Black Magic with 47k full skoda service history inc cambelt. Has columbus, bluetooth, xenons, heated seats, rear elec windows, jumbo box, auto lights, auto wipers, auto dimming mirror, rear sensors, maxidot and 18" alloys. Also came with 12months MOT and 6 months TAX. All for £6k from a main dealer

That's a cracking deal :o

Just need to keep a close eye, at that price and spec am guessing they go pretty quickly.
