I'm planning to buy a new black vRS in India. The problem is that the RS in India does not come with painted brake calipers. I think the green calipers look great. So i'm planning to get them painted on my own. Should I be worried about what kind of paint to use for the brake calipers? Would the wrong kind of paint hinder heat dissipation?

Please advise...

Most car accessory shops here sell specific paint for callipers, I've no idea about India though. Whatever you do, dont use standard paint or it will make a mess of your discs. If you cant get it direct, try on-line.

do you get "hammerite" in india?this is a good colour match for green calipers and will handle the heat produced from braking

well I'm sure i'll get the paint in India, lot of customizing is done in India, so getting the required paint grade will not be a problem. I just want to know the paint grade and the brand if any, as i don't trust the guys who do the jobs here. They'll sell anything.

also if you guys can reccomend the brand and the colour code which looks good, I'll have a easier time locating it.

By the way does any other colour look good? Red maybe?

Can anybody having a red Octy vRS post a picture showing how the green calipers look? I use a vRS in India and want to paint the claipers but am not sure how green would look on a red car. Thanks.

I have not got any decent pics of my old octy that show the calipers.

The really important points are, that the paint must be heat resistant and also make sure its reasonably ok being subjected to the material that makes up brake pads.

Jamlip are you reccomending not to paint the calipers at all or not to paint them red?

does heating of brakes after painting the calipers become a problem?

I live in New Delhi where the temperature in summers touches 43 degrees centigrade, so heat damage to brakes is an important issue.

Also I will be getting a remap from JabbaSport and my driving style isnt very kind on the brakes.

so under the circumstances should i paint the calipers or just leave them as they are?

I got a jammed caliper (dust boot failure) and the heat caused the paint to blister off. It was extremely hot, though.

I've been told about the traffic in India. Are you going to be braking hard a lot?! My advice would be to get some proper caliper paint that can withstand high temperatures. I don't think blistering paint will be dangerous (unless it gets into the piston, which it shouldn't if your dust boots are OK), but it'll look awful.

well the traffic in delhi is not that bad it's only congested during office timings. But i'm what one would call an aggressive driver. I drive a lot on the interstate to get to work so i typically drive between 150-170 kmph whenever the traffic opens up. But then every now and then i have to brake hard whenever some dumb pedestrian thinks he can outpace the car and cross the road.

Also late nights i pretty much let the car go as fast as it can, but then i dont have to brake hard during night as there is hardly any traffic after midnight.

Don't know about paint grades. Foliatec do special caliper paint, including one which is pretty close to Skoda Motorsport green. I think it's stocked by Demon Tweeks in the UK. Otherwise you could try a Google search for high-temperature paint and see what you can find - I think there are a lot of how-to's on this out there.
