Reflective strip insert on rear bumper

Featured Replies

Afternoon all,

Just went to sign the finaince paperwork for picking up my vrs tdi hatch tomorrow and the dealer pointed out something that I'd not seen in any of the photos etc - but having done a quick google images search I can see it in a few of them now.

It's a bit difficult to explain but in the bit where the black bumper joins the "painted" bodywork there's a reflective strip?

It kinda looks a bit naff to be honest, it's nothing major but I was wondering if anyone had seen about getting it replaced / resprayed?

Other than that have to say that despite the niggles I felt really pleased with it, the last time I drove one was last summer and I'd forgotten how good looking it is :)

Now just need to wait for tomorrow!

This is probably the best picture of it: http://www.auto-power-girl.com/wallpapers/highresolution/skoda_octavia_vrs_uk_price/100645

it's a red rear reflector, there as a safety feature. You could of course spray it but, and I know this sounds petty but, you may need to declare that you have done so to your insurer.

It's a reflector and is a legal requirement in the UK (probably the whole EU too).  Looks good.

It'll fail an MOT and a roadside Police check without it so i doubt any insurer would be happy with it painting.

With the rest on this, I actually quite like it, with the tail lights on as well, looks fine.

Cheers guys and girls I didn't know it was a legal requirement, if it is I won't touch it.

I suppose it looks as good as it could if it's a requirement, but at the time it just made me think of reflectors on a bike lol - I'm sure it'll grow on me, and I guess I won't be seeing it that much anyway ;)

On loads of cars there are (or used to be) reflectors built into the rear lights but as designs change so have the position of the reflectors.

I'm surprised you haven't noticed it as it's different to non-vRS Octys and also pointed out in the brochure.

I quiet like it and to be honest if some clown misses that on a dark night the should have their car keys removed!

I like it. I think it makes what can look like quite a narrow car look a bit wider, especially in the dark.

Reflectors on Vrs and other versions are different. Vrs ones are longer, almost as long as bumper's width, while standards one are much smaller although still perfectly legal. I guess you can partially respray Vrs reflectors to make them "look" smaller

Personally not to my taste but doesnt look bad, could you not tint it maybe just to darken it up may help you like it more
