All thanks for the kind words.

The difficulty I have is I no longer have a company car so I'm carless, If I go elsewhere to purchase another one I would need to finance the temporary car myself.

There is no way I want my original ordered car unless there was a heavy discount

Skoda UK have left a VM saying they will liaise with the dealer and call back Monday

**FOR SALE - vRS steering wheel, used but only delivery miles, immaculate condition. Keep an eye on Ebay!!

On a serious note, I'm gutted for you mate and I hope it get resolved very quickly.

Give Grimsby a call over the weekend and checkout what they have and spec.

Who knows what they can do with Skoda UK up their arse.

I smell a rat. Bet the dealers have damaged it and don't want to own up

Sorry to hear of your problems.

I cannot believe that this could have happened. surely if they wanted a VRS wheel they would have gone to the local dealers and stolen it, and not to the port.

IF you decide to keep the car, you need to make sure that you get a letter from SKODA - as it was in their procession - and NOT the dealer, detailing everything that had to be done to the car before they delivered it to you. That way if you ever have an issue when selling it, you can show the work that SKODA did.

how many extras did you get? is this car a new company car or personal.

If I were you, on Monday I would get Skoda to find a car with at least the spec you had ordered, and if there is one with a higher spec they should let you have it at the same price.

Good luck, and I hope you get it sorted quickly.

Thanks Wantaskoda good points about the repairs

The wheel is absolutely utter rubbish as the airbag would have activated, I think the airbag activated when it had a front end accident when being off loaded or someone decided to try and steal it.

It's my car

Being Meteor Grey is rare, then quite a few extra black & winter pack, sunset glass, climate, crew protection, anthracite alloys, swappable floor, spare wheel, finding a similar spec will be impossible

The wheel is absolutely utter rubbish as the airbag would have activated,

Perhaps I'm missing something, but why would removing the steering wheel cause the airbag to go off?

I would be asking for everything the dealer has told you to be put in writing for your records. Also I would want to see evidence of damage before any repairs carried out like a picture or video to inc VIN number at bottom of screen.

You didn't order an accident repaired car, you ordered a brand new car. I would want financial compensation before accepting the vehicle. Worth knowing where you stand with CAB or something. You can obviously refuse the car, but I know you really need it at same time :(

I used to work in a main dealers and see some bit's n pieces on cars coming in that would make me furious if it was my car! Customers largely would never have a clue. My car when being detailed burnt paint was found, looked like a simple scratch was machine polished too deep....... I also used to collect and drop trailers in various docks inc Emden, Emden is pretty good trains come in with the cars moved off and either straight to one of those warehouse looking ferries or into holding to get on their allotted one, very German precision and never seen a car abused once! In UK, seen a few docs that receive large volumes of cars into the country....... seen several written off within the docks and dozens being thrown around like they were stolen (normally very expensive cars)! Absolutely disgusting, had a Carrera put under one of our trailers sideways... Yet the lorry drivers get practically strip searched upon entering through security and then bent over if you break the smallest of site rules.... Total joke and pure lack of respect by the useless wasters!

When you get to see car, check right down into seats joins and creases for powder from an airbag going off, I'd flip at that point and walk off.

Devastated hearing your troubles btw :( I know when when I buy a new car it will be abused before I get it by a few people, id always check one in more detail than I would a used car for that reason!

Had a similar incident several years ago with a new Citroen ZX volcane smashed in roof and side went in early to see it before collection day only to be told the car was away for valeting,What a new car anyway when it did turn up the side looked like a bag of crisps and the roof was a different colour. They had even registered it in my name. Guess what I did not take it. They got me a new one.

I would tell your dealer to give you a demo and you want another new car. No joy walk don't let your heart rule your brain.Put this to Skoda UK. Then explain that this forum Skoda buyers are watching this situation develop. Why oh Why dealers can't be honest I don't know, we understand these things happen. If they were honest we would look for a fair way out of it, but no they have to make buying your new car a very distasteful thing instead of it being a joyfull thing.

Ask for photographic evidence... See what excuses you get then!!!

Camera broken probably...

It's a feeble excuse mate, sorry to hear of your dilemma, hope it gets sorted soon...

Someone got a Mk3 vRS interior on ebay recently

When i worked for a honda main dealer we were always changing bumpers & getting accident damage fixed before the customer collected their new car,we even had to swop things like abs units from car to car,its quite a eye opener to see what happens to your "new" car before you pick it up all nice & shiny.

That reminds me of something I was told a while back. All vehicles that are delivered to Sheerness are "initiated" into the country by the handlers... they do a lap around the yard as fast as they can, in 1st gear.

So yeah, if your car was brought in via the Isle of Sheppey... er... it's been ragged.

I'd reject it now tbh. Would it ever feel the same knowing some chav has broken into it and stolen the wheel? (If the story is even remotely true!)

Story needs facts and evidence. If true, they're gambling with their job security more than our cars.

Cobblers. They should audition for the new version of "call my bluff" when it gets screened, whenever that is.

Sounds like a load of crap to me.  As stated - docks are pretty secure, what with terrorist threats and stuff.  Probably as secure as airports.

Let's imagine that it is true and it was broken into and the steering wheel stolen.  They are not going to drive it to the assessors - as the transport locks will still be enabled, so the only way to get it there is put it onto a transporter.

OK - so it was broken into, surely as soon as this was discovered, Grimsby would be phoning the intended delivery target with a crime number?  The dealer should then be phoning you.

Call their bluff - ask them for a crime number, then call 101 or Grimsby Police (West Yorkshire I think Not far off - Lincolnshire - Look, I'm not a bloody geography expert alright  :nerd: ) and ask them to confirm it with them - what's the worst the police can do? Say they are not divulging details.

Make sure you get the crime number, date and time it was reported - this is important as it will add credence when you call the police.

If they ask why, just tell them you don't believe there was a crime and are confirming it before rejecting the vehicle.

Mine came in through there. Whereare these guys so i can go and thank them for making sure my car worked well!

Having checked Grimsby Docks on Google Maps, I think i may have changed my mind about how secure it is.

I dont believe the story that someone broke in to steal a steering wheel, but I wouldnt be surprised if it were possible to get inside the docks. Look at the railway line going straight across the main road and into the docks. Is there anything stopping you wandering down that railway line?

High speed trains?

High speed trains?

No chance. Its the line into the docks. No high speed trains. Be lucky if its 30mph. Plenty of room down side of tracks as well.

Note- I am not for 1minute suggesting people try trespassing in the docks, or on railway lines. I am just pointing out if someone was keen enough, i dont think it would be too bad. Depends how many cameras there are

Can I drum up support for armed vigilante patrols in Grimsby? Shooting Thieves and unloaders on sight? £20 a pop anyone?

You'd be surprised how many people get hit or run over by trains that do less than 10 mph. They are deceptively quiet machines.

In any case, railway lines into depots/yards or such industrial sites tend to be protected by gates. Wouldn't think that you can just walk along the line to get in.

Humberside Constabulary cover East Yorks and North Lincs.

I live in Grimsby the car holds are like fort know with touch sensitive fences and movement monitoring cameras. A few years ago a couple got nicked. There is over 1000 cars in storage with the keys in them and they target yours I smell a rat. Seeing the way the transporter and dock operatives rallying them off the ships I wouldn't be surprised if its been pranged. My mate is a painter at the VAG approved repairer in Grimsby so I can find out if any things been through.
