Grrr that noise !

Featured Replies

I'm having a moan.

I can't stand all that noise of grit/stones in the rear arches anymore. I'm definately going to get the wheel arch liners when the weather gets better. It's doing my head in. Being such a small car you hear it more. I know I can't compare it to my Octavia which were lined but it is loud.

Does anybody else feel the same?

Sorry for the moan it just bugs me.

Yeah I hate it, I drive a lot of small country lanes and all I can hear is all the muck hitting the rear arches! :-( and as you say the Octavia is nicely lined so you don't hear a thing!!

The other notice that's annoying me...not that I do it all the time but when you have the car at a stand still in say 1st gear and you rev the engine....makes a very odd sound....it's fine in normal operation no sounds at all lol

This little car is great but makes a lot of sounds lol that being said it's also a very solid car haha now that makes no sence!!!

With you on this one mate

Whenever I go over a certain road (lots of loose chippings) I physically cringe due to the little tings of the stones hitting under the arches.

Also wet roads make one hell of a noise too.

I know its cost cutting, but come on... basic arch liners fitted as standard is hardly going to take that big a chunk of the profits surely.

I know I can get them done, but when you spend so many thousands on a new car, you should really have a basic thing like that already.

Not many complaints about the car, but this is definitely one of them

I feel your pain! wet roads, grit and stones all make for an annoying drive at times, on top of all the other noises the Citigo makes lol

It's not bothering me that much, just when you go over a large twig or small branch off a tree, it sounds like something about to come through the bottom of the car.

I fitted the arches soon after we got our Citigo. One of the all time must do's to a citigo, especially after all this rain?

Oh yes to me it's well worth the £75 to stop all that grit and muck as well as the noise.

How do you find it now Owens?

I don't own a Citigo, but did a few adaptations with VCDS on a colleagues VW Up.

To check the anti hijack was enabled properly, I suggested we drive it round the car park to verify the doors auto locked. It was a tarmac surface, but I was shocked at the noise of grit hitting the back arches. The owner said it was normal, but I wasn't impressed with this degree of cost cutting.

It's not just the noise, but how long will it be until the steel in the arches gets chipped down to bare metal and starts to rust?.......not very long I'd suggest. I'd get liners in there as a matter of urgency if it was my car.

Excellent. Especially with all the rain and dirt on the roads at the moment.

I agree it must be a good paint stripper which I don't want. The poor old Citigo is the only one which doesn't have rear arch liners. I've no idea why they missed such a cheap add on.

@ Owens. Good news yours is well with these :)

Why are all the fixings there and hidden yet they don't fit them?

It's a dreadful noise. Never heard it on any other car - even cheaper cars. I wonder if I've got chips that can rust after six months? Does the £75 include fitting and is it for a pair?

That's just for 2 arch liners and all the fittings excluding fitting charges. They are dead simple to fit though and won't take too long at all.

I enquired at my dealer and they can supply all the fittings but not the 2 liners as they're not on the system so would have to get them from VW instead. It roughly totals about £75 incl vat. Well worth it as far as I'm concerned.

As an even cheaper alternative to liners could one use some of that foaming adhesive insulation spray?

I've used it before to seal some gaps in a garage roof and after expanding it dries into a hard foam surface.

Instant liner or inappropriate use?!

Hi All,

I recently drove my wife's white Citigo  and I noticed the noise of grit hitting the rear wheel arches.

When you look at the car from the side you notice the white painted area behind the wheel, which

stand out even more if you have black wheels. The car has to go back to the dealer to have its interior

light looked at so I will investigate having plastic arch inserts and the area behind the wheel turned black!

I think it's quite well proofed against chipping & corrosion? Seems to have a thick painted coating of sorts, it's whether you can put up with the noise which I'm going to try and do. Turn the radio up and you can't hear a thing :)

Agreed. I whince whenever my poor car gets clattered by stone chips, but with the stereo on it's not that noticeable.
