Mufflerectomy.........blueprint/how to?

Featured Replies

So Im wanting to make up my own Mufflerectomy which I can attach using clamps.

I want to make up and get it all welded together before I cut my backbox off so If I don't like it I can easily swap back.

Is it as simple as attaching a straight pipe or are there any bends? Im pretty sure there will be bends.

So If anyone knows where the bends are and where the hangers go that would be a massive help.

Just google "fabia vrs exhaust" loads of pictures, doesnt appear to be any bends if you chop at the right part close to the box. (but not too close)

What is Mufflerectomy?

Removal of backbox.

Looking at the pictures the pipe enters the backbox higher than the exits so a bend would be required somewhere in there.

Its the degree Im wondering about.

I have the cat back bit of the standard Fabia exhaust which was attached to a mufflerectomy. Would save you having to cut and weld your standard one.

All you need to go is make up your piece of pipe on 2.5" and then clamp it :)

cut the pipe at a slight angle then? Or leave a gap and fill it with weld when at the right angle.

For freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee?

TBH Im trying to keep it cheap as possible so buying non essential bits is a no no.

Thanks though.

Step 1. Chop exhaust before rear silencer

Step 2. Chop exhaust after rear silencer

Step 3. Join the tailpipe to the rest of the exhaust using a piece of straight pipe using universal clamps or weld it

It is as simple as it sounds

Wouldn't this leave my tail pipe pointing at the ground and not straight out like standard??

Nope. The backbox is straight right.. so all your doing is replacing the straight backbox with a straight bit of pipe ;)

Nah, the pipe that enters the back box is a few inches higher than the pipes that exit it. so would deffo need a bend.

Edit: Too slow

Exactly what degree angles do you have there?

no idea m8 lol.. u welding it yourself? If you take it to someone they will be able to sort it no problem.. if your doing it yourself then do it by eye.. weld the pipe to the exhaust 1st then line up the tailpipe tip + cut the end of the straight pipe till your happy with the angle.. then spot weld it on + make sure it sits right before properly welding it

All my exhausts get welded by eye. Cut it off and offer the pipe up and tack it so it looks right then stand back and make sure the tip is how you want it then weld it all up. As long as the tip looks ok don't worry about the rest of it you can't see it. You will need the pipe at a slight angle so cut the pipe with a slight angle

I won't be welding it myself but would like to get all the pipe work ready for welding so I can get a local engineering firm to weld it up for me.

I think I will have to get some measurements from my back box and work from there.

Looking through this with interest as I'm looking to get a little bit of noise from my exhaust. To keep costs down I was just going to buy a new back box and cut out the old one and weld the new one on. I'm a welder so something like this might be ideal.

Am I right in thinking it's just a cut before the backbox to remove it and then a pipe welded on and the original tailpipe welded to the new pipe. Is this correct.

What sort of noise would come from something like this. I'm not wanting mine to be really loud just a bit more sportier than standard.

I'm not being funny but all you need to do is cut a straight bit of pipe the length of the back box your are taking out and the welder willbe able to weld around it. Your making it seem a lot harder than it is mate lol.

I want it all fabricating before it goes on the car.

Nothing needs fabricating, you need a bit of straight pipe to length in which you take off the back box, it's really that simple.

I would like the tip welding on, Hangers welded in the correct place and a bend so it exits straight.

Does sound easy enough to do. Any idea of how it will sound.

Also do you know what the outside diameter of the exhaust is.
