Airbag light has come on... help and or advice needed

Featured Replies

I was at the garage refilling. Then I got back in the car, started it up and noticed the airbag light had come on. I've searched and read a couple of other posts and it looks like we will need to get it fixed. I am worried sick its going to cost a fortune to fix. I was thinking of getting an auto electrician to fix it instead of skoda. Theres also an issue with the fan which I discovered reading here was the resistor? So that needs doing too.

if anyone has any suggestions on next steps please share. I am in Widnes. Thanks :)

Mine came on about 2 months ago. So I scanned the car. There were Canbus errors. Canbus intermittent failure to about 5 modules, including the airbag controller. I thought that all these modules could not of failed at the same time and I must have some wiring loom issue going on. I don't know how to track down the issue. Anyway I simply pushed down the plug on the ECU and cleared all the fault codes.

I don't think I actually did anything by pushing the ECU plug. But I have had no re-occuring airbag fault light and my weekly scans since keep showing No Fault Codes against everything.

So 2 months have gone by, the car has had quite a few motorway journeys and no issues. At no time did anything change in the drive of the car just an airbag light came on and I just reset it off again.

I guess time will tell how it goes but at least I know it seems very intermittent. I suggest you also do a VCDS scan, note and clear any fault codes then see if they re-appear.

Has it got side airbags?  Anything shoved under the drivers/passenger seat regularly that could have knocked the connection? :)

Even once you have identified a possible cause (most likely non expensive wiring connector issue), the fault must be cleared with VCDS or a dealer to put the light out. Airbag faults will not clear by themselves unlike some faults.

First job will be check under the seats. Then check for obvious wiring stuff. I will see if we can locate the ecu and check nothing is loose. We do have side airbags I am sure. Then we will see what to do about the code. Thanks for the suggestions so far :)

Checked under seats. No loose wires but hubby found connectors and made sure they were ok. Couldn't find ecu but made sure any connectors we saw were ok. Warning light is obviously still on. There was an umbrella had disappeared under the seat. We have to put it on the computer now to check or reset the codes :)

Yes, need someone local with VCDS to run a fault code scan.  Check the diagnostics section and there might be a member with it near you. :)
