BT Infinity and Wireless connectivity issues.

Featured Replies

Just had BT infinity installed today at home, my main PC, my phone and also my Ipad have all connected no issues.

Where as my spare computer won't connect to the hub itself. Any ideas what could be causing it? Could it be an issue with the wireless card not being compatible with the hub itself?

Its a D-Link Airplus G+ DWL-G520+ wireless card and a BT home hub 5.

Any help would be much appreciated

Could be that the Home Hub doesn't have wireless G standard switched on in the settings - the chances are that your other devices are all using N which is newer, faster and has a better range. That network card does sound pretty ancient though -you could get a wireless USB dongle for about 5 or 6 quid that supports wirelss N if it's easier.

I had a feeling that was the case as I recall upgrading my wireless card in my Main comp and it supported N and G.

trip down to Maplins tomorrow to get another wireless card for it, on a plus note now getting 37.46mbps DL compared to 1mbps, makes a slight difference haha

The home hub does support G devices, so it might be worth checking that it's in a mode that allows G and N.

You'll find that in the routers web interface :)

IIRC you need to type homehub.home in the browser address bar?

How far away is your spare computer from the Hub ?

I'm on BT infinity with a Home Hub 3 and the wi-fi isn't great especially when there are lots of other signals in the area.

I can literally sit with my Playbook 4 feet in LOS from the router, with no obstructions in between and the signal is being lost and then re-obtained because the signal from other routers (Even though they may be on different channels) is blocking out my connection.

That's why I opted for a Devolo connection to my second PC upstairs.

My BT wireless is good but I use Ethernet plugs to link our media centre to the network/internet, they're well worth the money, seamless and problem free.

Wireless G is enabled by default, if you still run the standard settings.

The issue is I suspect the wireless card, pop out and get a wireless N one, and it should be better anyway. HH4 supports 300meg on wireless N at 5GHZ and 150meg at 2.4GHZ.
