This isn't launch control on manual cars, it's just a lower rev limit to stop retards over-reving the engine when not in gear.

Firstly like you say it's not an accurate way to measure 0-60 times, using youtube.  Secondly a standard vRS TDi isn't going to do 0-60 in 6.8 seconds, i know, i own one.

I never mentioned youtube but, using a stop watch its coming out at around the 7 second mark, every time i time it iv had the following results: 6.8, 6.8, 7.1, 7.0, 7.15.

Sorry youre right you didn't, think dreamt that. :D

Yeah my old x-type did this. As do the motors at work. It's just the rev limiter when you're not in gear.

Launch control would be cool but I'm sure it only actually works in the dsg version.

Think every VAG car does it nowadays had a 1.0 polo courtesy car that did it. Making them idiot proof.

Can vcds log 0-60 times? Or can you buy a Bluetooth obd dongle in association with a smart phone app to do so?

Some Leon FR owners with the DTUK box for the TDi 184 are reporting sub 6 seconds 0-60.

Im trying to upload my video also.

Yep, i've had 2 Civic Type R's and they won't go past 5.5k rpm if not in gear.

Blimey that's quick, find out how to launch the car, then set the car up and go :giggle:

Now where did I put that manual again.

Mind you it was timed on an iphone stopwatch so you never know probable 17 seconds haha

Ok Rob, have you owned the car from new ? I kinda think someone else may have modified the car, Mk2 FL vRS TDI's don't go sub 7 as standard hence, my question.

well it does. My 170 does and was officially timed over 3 runs so would imagine the 184 would no problem with dsg and launch.

Will also echo what has been said, there is no launch control on manual cars. Vag have done this for about 4 or 5 years now.

Yes iv owned from new, mk2 are 10bhp less haha. Its definitely sub 8 seconds, and i believe it to be less than 7.5 but unless its gps tracked i suppose its difficult to say its actual, whether DSG makes a difference.

I think the simplest explanation is that you're relying on the car's own built in speedo telling you you're doing 60mph. In reality, your indicated 60mph might actually (and also very likely) be 56mph.

That is a possibility, but the speedo says 60mph so we'll go with that ????, ill try it on sat nav later if i remember and see what speedo says if i sit at 60 on sat nav

'Go with that'? Sure, sounds scientific.

Mean while back at the ranch, some 40 odd posts ago, I asked which engines have this function ?

Have we know concluded this a function of the DSG drive and not the engine ?

Sorry I may have lost the original point somewhere along the line.

Yes this is a feature of the DSG but i think its model dependant.

My car has 4 wheel drive and launch control makes it 4.9 to 60 (Gti international )as standard. Mine has had both dsg and engine mapped so launch control is now at 4300 instead of 2800 so it is like a scalded cat . Oil and water temp must be hot before it lets you. No wheelspin either

Well obviously its not scientific using a chuffing gopro video and iphone stop watch.

Sorry Rob I didn't mean to belittle your car or cause any offense, its just quicker than I'd thought hence, I was very impressed as I said.

I know it dark now and I'm probably being a PITA but, any chance you could see if its slower to 60 without the launch control, just sticking the hammer down as it were.

Maybe tomorrow or just when you've got time, I'm interested in the launch control and whether it adds anything to the car or whether its just another play thing.
