Crew Protection

Featured Replies

I'll keep this simple guys.

Is crew protection worth it?

Thanks

Yes.

Wish you never check it.

What possible save two lives for less than the cost of sparkley paint

Just two extra airbags and the fact the seatbelts tighten. I take it you also have the crew protection.

Thanks

If you want two additional airbags (rear) and pre-safe (belt pre-tensioning and window/roof closure when risk of collision detected) go for it.

Car does however have 7 airbags as standard and already meets 5 star NCAP rating so its not like its unsafe as is.

I have the crew protection.

I have two youngish children, so rather than spend the money towards an upgrade to the infotainment system or jazzy headlights I succumbed to guilt and bought the crew protection, as I wanted my little darlings to have the extra protection from the rear side air bags.

Now, before I get shot down in flames (again), there has been some debate over the rear side airbags causing injury to young children in event of them triggering in an accident.

The airbags allegedly can cause serious injury to young children in certain circumstances.

My opinion is yes, the car is already safe enough as standard, but parenthood doesn't come with a handbook.

So I opted to spend the money on hoping that should the worse happen and an accident occurs the rear side airbags/crew protection does more good than bad, and that my instinct to protect my children as best I can as a parent is the correct choice.

Is here such thing as "safe enough"?

I've gone for it on my order. There is a good little description of the system (and front and lane assist etc) and benefits on the Euro NCAP website. Interested to see whether the seat belt tightening happens under 'normal' conditions, which could cause some complaints from the 3 and 7-yr old passengers. I understand you can de-sensitize it if needed, so it only works in real emergencies.

No, not really, but it was meant in the context that for an ncap 5 rated car, it's "probably" as safe as the next equivalent rival to a Skoda octavia in standard guise.

I believe its only the front seat belts which tighten in the event of the car detecting an imminent accident. I stand corrected if I'm wrong, but I'm sure I read it in the manual.

I spec'ed crew protection on mine, for similar reasons to those stated above. I would rather have the comfort of knowing its there for safety than wishing I had put it on if I were to need it.

Cheers.
