Headlight bulb upgrade for Monte Carlo

Featured Replies

My Mrs was on the phone to Skoda today about the misting problem on our front fog lights (and occasionally headlights as well) and was told wait for it ............"Transportation Condensation" which should burn off after a few weeks........lets be fecking frank here they shouldn't be misting full stop as I never had a problem with our fiesta infact in the 2 n half yrs we had the fiesta feck all went wrong.......nada....zip.......and a week of skoda ownership and we are complaining about misting problems......ffs.. :@

Ive got this problem on my monte, nearly 12 months old and still misting up when it's raining or damp! Been to my local dealer who have taken photos and sent them off to see if they can be replaced under warranty or not.

The misting is mentioned in the user manual so I don't think Skoda will do anything about it under warranty.

If they didn't have these poxy DRL's then there wouldn't be a problem.....I wish I could switch them off......as my 2014 model don't have the switch in the fuse box....I have found that fuse number 35 is the DRL's but theres also some other item attached to it something radio....or other anyone have any feedback on this...???

i heartily recommend a pair of 55w HID in 5000k (or 4300k).

I used to run 35w 6000k HID but they where only ok for brightness, colour temp was too cold/blue for good night time visibility i found. 5000k much much better and still looks neutral white.

The number 35 fuse's other item on is the radio stop start set up which my car doesn't have so once I check with the dealership then hopefully it can be taken out.....then no more problems with misting up....

5000k is defo the colour to have. I think mines just right, looks pretty much oem. My mates got 8000k in his chav civic, which i think compliments the chav appeal even more! Aha.

Id love 55w, but seens as iv got the silver pack lights, if i put 55w hid dip in, i dont think id be able to see the high beam. As its so bright so close up, if you get what i mean?

Iv tried hid high beams but the warm up time is a pain and it blew the bulbs after a few months. I think thats because its being stop started so much in high beam and hids dont like that :/.

Got our headlight bulbs upgraded today at Halfords.....(don't think they had done a mk2 fabia TDi before) left side came out and went back in a treat the drivers side was a little more tricky because of unbolting the fuel filter to gain access to the back of the light unit, after getting the bulb out and replacing the new one the hardest bit was replacing the bolts to hold the fuel filters bracket after several attempts he went and got someone who had smaller hands than himself...lol anyway all bolted in and headlights are a lot better now, we got Halfords own brand (BOGOF) and are 120% brighter I also think I may lift the beams a little bit but we will see how it go's......:)

How can a simple task (renew headlight bulb) be such a pain in the A*$e!

One of my Octy bulbs blew last week, so decided to buy a new set and at the same time seen this thread about poor quality lights on the Fabia (daughters) so bought her some too!

Mine on the Octy took 5 mins to do... incl pulling lights out.

On the Fabia, even the left one was a bit awkward, but that was after struggling for 10 mins trying to do the right one... in the end I gave up.. suffering severe 'spanner rash'! I re-read this thread to eventually see the posts about TDI's and fuel filter  :wall: . So tonight I tried again and seen that I don't have a socket for the FF bolts.. so back to sq 1! The thing is I can get the hand in.. but I just don't seem to be able to turn anti clockwise, as if its stuck?

How is this an owners - DIY job??

Anti clockwise to get the bulb clip out you mean?

As your looking at the car face on, from the front, you need to put your hand in and twist it clockwise. (Its abit hard to explain)

It might be abit stiff if its not been out before.

As per the manual...

Changing the low beam and high beam bulb (halogen projector headlights)

Fig. 156

Removing bulbs for low beam/low and main beam

First read and observe the introductory information and safety warnings

on page 195.

› Remove the rubber cover 1 » Fig. 154 on page 196.

› Turn the socket with the bulb to the stop in the direction of the arrow » Fig. 156

and remove it.

› Replace the bulb, insert the connector and new bulb and turn to the stop in the

opposite direction to that of the arrow.

I changed mine to Osrams over the weekend and what a f***ing pain they was. I decided to do the drivers side first as the battery was in the way. Could I master it? Could I hells like. Tried using a screwdriver to seperate the clips and pull, nope.

Thought I would do what all male species hate - the manual.

Managed to twist it off and pull out of the headlight, had to use the screwdriver to prise the bulb from the holder, new bulb in and went to put it back in, wouldn't fit. I was effing and jeffing taking the bulb back out and seeing if it went in and it did. Then after 10 minutes I realised the clip that the connector clips to only goes in one way so make sure you remember that.

That is why I let someone else to do it.....the fuel filter on my TDi has 3 torx bolts that have to come out and the filter and the bracket has to be moved to the side and even after this has been done it's still pretty tight especially if u have big hands.....mine are a huge improvement over the ****e stock bulbs......anyone know which way the beam adjusters go to raise the beams...????

From memory I think it's anti clockwise to raise then visa versa. There's a plastic posidrive grub screw on the top of each headlight unit which you have to turn.

Adjusted them myself against my garage door one night after fitting new bulbs and they're miles better now.

I've lifted the beams slightly and they are a bit better but I have notice that the headlights are very focused on the curbs and even when on high beam they are not exactly giving me good distance (so not giving me full confidence when driving at night) has anyone else noticed this.....I think I'm going to change over to night breakers

I had Nightbreakers in originally after raising the headlight units but I wasn't that impressed when one blew, contacted Osram who sent a new set which didn't improve things much.

I've got Bosch 90+ in now, got them for a bargain £7.50 for the pair with free delivery from Europarts when they were on offer. I've found these to be a bit better than the Nightbreakers and they're still going strong over a year later.

Maybe a proper headlight alignment is needed by an mot tester?
