Ah right. I was looking at the mobius too.

I was thinking of hard wiring to permanent live and replacing battery with a capacitor, for permanent recording (with motion sensor to activate recording)

What's your set up like? Are you able to mark videos for retention, ie so they aren't automatically over written?

  • Bit of an inconvenience in my opinion. The thought of hooking my phone up to the mount every time in the car sounds horrendous.   Love my dash cam as it cost so little, it instantly records as soon

  • I have something similar to that for my phone. Might give a few apps a try and see what sort of results I get. Cheers

  • My suction is solid and never falls off. Only a few quid on the bay too.

I can, but I don't bother. I have a usb adapter hardwired into the rear wiper fuse socket, so it comes on with ignition. On a 32GB card, I get about 5-6 hours worth or 3min clips on a 32GB card with sound recording turned off (I don't like the sound of my own voice anyway  :p ).

I keep a spare sd card in my wallet, so if anything happens, I can switch cards next time I stop.

I just can't decide now, either the mini 0803 or the mobius, the latter seems more reliable but the former has better features.

I fit helps, all my youtube videos were taken with a Mobius...

I'm sure you'll be able to find plenty of examples with the 0803 as well. I would say not to worry about a built in screen either, I don't miss not having one on the Mobius. I know if it's recording or not by the flashing light on the rear.

I gave mine away in the end. the mount that came with it was too big, which made it difficult to mount in my windscreen. I gave it to a family member who has a superb, and he's very happy with it.

I went for  aMobius in the end, and I've been very happy with the footage from it. Seems very reliable too

you got a link to the 1 you bought?

How long have you had yours? going for £27 now which is stupidly cheap. not trying to decide between this one and the 0803, both have similar reviews

Had it about 2 months now and well chuffed with it, bargain  if you ask :D

Thanks for that. Think in gonna get one for me and one for our lass. If I think it needs something better ill use it as a rear camera anyway. (should it last).

What memory card are you using?

Jesus they are good quality. Just reviewed your vids and its nice to see you have the exact same issues in the same places as me, aka parksquare and university roundabouts - 'Pick a lane, any lane...just don't tell me which it is'

they lose a bit when uploaded to youtube... they're excellent viewed straight from the file.

that joovuu kit you linked to comes ready with the wide angle lens I added later... seem like a good deal to me. I use the sticky tape mount in my windscreen though, as it's smaller and easier to place by the rear view mirror. Problem is, once it's stuck, it's stuck, so you need to be careful to get it in the right place first time. Mine could've done with being a bit more over to the right on the windscreen.

When bought from Amazon I got the option of a 32GB card for about £10 I think.

Ah right, dont suppose you know if its a class, 4, 6, 10 etc?

I would only use class 10 in a dash cam.

Unless the image is of a poor quality, in which case why get that one.

Cheers Boss, I must say I don't know much regarding what the hell each class means but guessing it may have something to do with transfer speed?

Class 10 = at least 10MB/s write speed

Class 6 = at least 6MB/s write speed

etc etc

For 1080p HD video @ 30fps, you need at least a class 6. In most cases, faster cards won't really make a much of a difference

Slower cards may cause skipped frames, or even unreliable video recording.

Just make sure it's a good reliable brand, (like Sandisk, Lexar, or even Transcend) and that you take it out to format it occasionally.

I bought the Transcend Drivepro 200 about a year a go for £80. It doesn't have GPS but the video quality is excellent. My boss said the quality is better than his Roadhawk that he paid over £200 for. Would fully recommend!

Hey john, got mine today, just wondering how you format the memory card? Does the camera do it or can it be done outside the camera? If so how?

Cheers,

Kyle

Every three months or so you need to pop the card out and reformat it with your PC.

This stops recording errors creeping in as it's constantly deleting and rewriting files.

To add to this as you've told me previously turn off event recording or turn the sensitivity right down if you live near really bad roads as I'd fill an 8gb SD with events in two days.

Indeed, some cameras do save events in a seperate folder that are not deleted and some just highlight events and then still record over them.

The Blackvue are the latter.

Iirc the Roadhawk ones do the separate folders don't they as I've had a lot more issues with formatting on them due to this than the Blackvue ones. I fitted my dashcams today some old 300G models :) turned event recording off however wiring the rear one was a real PITA.

The older Roadhawks do, but I've not checked the newer ones yet.

Good to see they got fitted.

Did you wire the live into the rear wiper plug?

Should have just been a case of finding the ignition live and tapping into it.

And an earth of course.

Nope because Renault in their wisdom fitted a UCH module which means that there is no ignition live in the tailgate or the rear of the car for that matter and rear wiper wires were unusable so I had to cut some wires out of the old Fabia loom to extend the power cables to the nearest ignition live to the boot which happened to be the fuse box.

Ah, I didn't realise you were putting them in the poo-box. ;):D

Same problem with the LEAF, no ignition lives past the dash to the rear of the car.
