Where to run boost gauge house?

Featured Replies

Pretty self explanatory really, I'm having difficulty finding a good place to run the boost gauge hose and also where to T off from to get the vacuum aswell.. Any help would be much appreciated.

I would love to know this aswell. Looked everywhere including other forums and only found a couple of times, they aren't very clear on what to do thou.

I have a forge recirc valve and havent tried putting valve on any pipe work.

Maybe put one on turbo actuator, but like I said have never fitted one and have no clue

With the forge kits you get a little block that fits between the inlet manifold and pressure sensor. Tee off the pipe that connects to that block to give both boost and vacuum.

If you dont have the forge kits you need to get a self sealing nipple and go in to the pipe thats a right angle at the top right hand side of the engine.

Have to admit that the big-kid in me is getting very tempted to fit a boost gauge.

Just a couple of questions for those that already have:

1. Is 18psi \ approx 1.3bar highest pressure likely to see on stock engine? I.e therefore best to go for 2bar gauge.

2. Where have people mounted the gauge? Was thinking on either a-pillar or top of steering column in front of standard gauges?

Cheers

Further to A Woodster's query, how would one get pipes / leads through from the engine bay to the cabin?  I would have thought that there would not be any obvious access points these days.  I wondered this in relation to the possible use of a combined oil pressure / temperature gauge.

I haven't checked in detail yet, but had assumed for now that would be a suitable grommet to use.

Will have to get head up under dash later to have a look.....

I just use a bluetooth OBDII adapater and an app on my phone

have you got a link for this adaptor?

Got mine from amazon- varying prices and quality. The mini ones fit with the fuse cover on.

Also Bluetooth ones will only work with windows phone and android, Iphone requires a WiFi version.

i have a samsung so should be okay? So it just plugs into your socket behind fuse pannel? What app are you using?

Do you just leave that plugged in at all times then mate?

Tempted to get one myself. Not for boost pressure as my cars N/A but itd be interesting to see when the oil temps and stuff

Oil Temp was not shown correctly in Torque in my case. Even though I have it enabled and shown via my maxidot, within Torque it stayed at 0 all the time.

Also, I was wondering is the Turbo boost via Torque a fairly accurate reading? Haven't checked it to be honest but if it works well I'm tempted to re-plug my BT OBD adapter, it has been sitting inside some drawer for quite some time.

Hmm. Maybe not worth bothering then.

Pretty sure its very rarely 0 degrees haha.

I still need to try and find a way of getting the hose through guys

The port is always powered (the adapter has indicator leds which come on when its plugged in, even when the ignition is off) so i wouldn't recommend leaving it plugged in all the time. I just use it for info when im taking mine for a bit of exercise at the weekend.

The data is coming direct from the Ecu, so whatever data that is receiving from the turbo/super should be true, likewise with the oil temp. On maxidot with oil temp, it shows "--" until it reaches 50 degrees or so, so might be why you are getting the same with torque app.

I'm using a lumia 920 windows phone with an app called Car Dash. That gives you a list of what data it can show once connected (the obd port will only provide data once the ignition is switched on).

I prefer this method for boost etc. as its easily removed and transplanted to other vehicles. Plus all the other data you can show and log. You can also use these apps for reading diagnostics codes.

Im sure i read that about an hour ago aha.

Oh my bad, my phone told me it hadnt sent.. sorry!

On the subject of accuracy, its probably not going to be 100% due to the apps/adaptors/latency etc. but it should be pretty good. Nothing like a proper wired diagnostic device however.

Those sort of readings are entirely possible i would say. I've had around 1.2 bar before. The turbo in the vrs is capable of 2ish + bar as far as i know.

Can i just drill a hole through to the engine bay? obviously finding a place where no wires are located etc?

Wouldnt you need some way of sealing it up around the hose though?

id get some grommets?
