So, we now have version 4020 - yay! Thanks, KBPhoto :-) V8 maps installed. 7 digit postcodes. Result.

Thanks very much, everyone who contributed to resolving this. Keep your eyes peeled for my next post - Bluetooth for Dummies*

Anyone got any later discs to update to more recent versions, perchance...?! *pushes her luck*

*not kidding!!

Turns out the bf has worked out how to connect phones via bluetooth and that's working fine. Hurrah.

Next question - which one of you is popping round to wash the car? :-D

I have 4120 which may well be the furthest you can go on your device.

Did you find out the part number, SW & HW numbers?

That will help others on here and may allow us to see if you can go further.

You'll need to post that question in the 'detailing' section...

Apparently the setup menu now gives us unit details. But did the bf write them down? Short answer, no. And quite frankly, in this weather, I'm not going out there to find out yet! Will have a look tomorrow :-)

Will try to get to the PO before the weekend. Thanks again.

No problem.

The menu will show the upgraded part number not the original part number.

You haven't used the VIM removal disc then?

Hi Guys,

Just been to my local Skoda dealer who have informed me I have a 3T0035680A unit on Firmware version 2724. They say Skoda do not have any later firmwares for this device but this firmware version will support 7 digit postcodes if I install maps V8 or later.

I am happy to get new maps for the unit, but can I install the latest version (V10) onto the unit at this firmware level? I understand that pre-3xxx firmwares use 2 partitions and the post-3xxx firmwares use 3 partitions - will this limit or prevent latest maps installation on a 2724 device?

Any info is appreciated.

Regards

You won't I don't believe get points of interest with the newer maps unless you upgrade the firmware but the maps will otherwise be ok.

I'm looking forward to picking up my early 2011 model Superb with a Columbus on Tuesday and exploring what firmware levels/maps it comes with.

As this is a dummies thread, I've looked at the manuals but I'm slightly unclear about a couple of things.

Firstly, is there any form of active traffic  mapping possible? My smartphone has this with CoPilot software and it is supposedly subscription but they seem to keep giving me further 12 months free, can't complain. Running SatNav on the phone is a pain though, unless I have a passenger. Now obviously the Columbus doesn't have internet access as such but there seems to be vague mention of using a hotspot somewhere.

Secondly, can it actually decode UK digital television? There is mention of it with picture muting on the move but I'm aware it is a pan-European manual.

Thanks in anticipation,

Ian

TMS is the built in subscription free traffic update system that relies upon the radio transmissions for its information.

TV in is possible but only standard on L&K Superbs as far as I know. It can be retrofitted.

Picture muting you refer to is VIM (Video In Motion) and cuts the picture but not the sound at about 7 mph.

Updating firmware can reactivate VIM (making you illegal) but you can also deactivate it with a software patch via CD.

24 hours in to my new Superb, I've worked out that my unit doesn't have the secret menu behind setup, it has an 18 Gig hard drive, it appears to mention points of interest but doesn't seem to do postcodes at all for navigation and lets me copy SD card files to the HDD but not the CD files (neither a commercial CD nor a burnt one). The car was registered in February 2011. Bluetooth seemed to be fine, although I hadn't done much more than make a test call and import my phone book.

I just need to work out how to remove the trim now so I can find the part number (or track down someone with VCDS).

You can only copy MP3 files from SD card.

18Gb is just the music partition. You have a 30Gb HD.

Secret menu (for what it's worth) can be activated with VCDS or by updating firmware.

Part / HW / SW numbers are best taken off the sticker.

It will do postcodes. Enter them in the 'City' bar.

Thanks guys. I'd give the manual 3/10 for clarity.

Update, I have installed maps v9 onto my unit (3TO - A) that has firmware 2724 without issue. I now have full 7 digit postcode, speedcams and traffic displayed on map - plus everything else still works a treat such as Bluetooth, etc.

I eventually  managed to get access to the label on my Columbus, it is 3T0 035 680 A, HW:H42 SW:2724.

What can I upgrade the firmware to please?

(Although it looks like I don't need to do that from the post above).

You don't NEED to but you might WANT to.

4020 with no issue.

4120 probably (will add radio text if you really want that).

Maybe into 5xxx, but why? There are no real gains being reported.

V9 maps on their way to me. As an aside, I unterstand from other threads that Bluetooth isn't really part of Columbus. I have a scenario where my Company Blackberry is set up as the phone without issue and my Samsung Galaxy Note II is set up as the Media player. I can happily play music from the Note but cannot advance tracks or see the track details. I saw mention that this was a limitation of Spotify but it should be OK on Winamp, however I have Winamp Pro which behaves exactly the same. Now I have blurtooth headphones that can happily advance the track so know the phone can do it but I can't find any obvious settings in the car or the phone.

Any ideas? I think that having split phones may be a red herring but I'll recheck just homed to one of them. (media Player doesn't work from the samsung if the Blackberry is off).
