Hi chaps been looking in to the old mondeo/kia brake upgrade again but was a little concerned they might be a little to powerful and would just lock up (seeing as its a road rally car most of the time the lanes are wet and snotty and gravel) so I went to see a mate that works in a local parts shop to see if the pads are the same as anything else.

Now by my reckoning there the same as a 1982-1986 ford sierra 1.6 running (assuming the same) Lucas calliper does anybody know if this is definitely the case? As I'm thinking I'm going to get a set of mintex M1144 pads (part number mdb1212m1144) but as there nigh of £100 a set I don't want to get them and then they end up being wrong!    :think:   :S

Yes I think that's right, I seem to remember that there was a ford pad that was the same as the skoda ones, most motor factors have giant catalogues with brake pads in, in the mintex catalogue it has pictures at the back so you can compare the pads.

Yup Iv just eyed it up with the life size pictures and there the ones, so there you go guys comp standard pads :rock:  just got to find some now for less than £100 if I can or bite the bullet and find some pennies.

Have a look at Mintex F2 pads, these are a modern day equivalent to the old fashioned 1144 or 1155 pads.

 

 At a long shot, if you search for Questmead and send them an email you might be lucky and they will sell to you direct, usually they only supply trade but I managed to get a set of pads for a very favourable price.

just those pads...........  will they make that much difference

 

only asking as i have tried all sorts on my KTM supermoto, but dont really feel any difference

(road pads, scintered, kevlar etc)

thing that springs to mind, if you are running on gravel, and the wheels are locking up, then changing the pads will make no different because the car has already broken traction, it's tyres which are the limiting factor in this case

Its all kinds of surfaces that were on, I just know from experience from my astra that I had 288mm set up on the front and the car was far better with the standard 256mm with a set of proper pads in. As for bike question Iv not uprated the pads in my 636 yet but then again there 4 pad 4 piston callipers so the brakes are fantastic in standard trim but previous bikes Iv had iv upgraded to HH sintered pads and yes there is certainly a difference have you thought about braided brake lines as well?

braided hoses as standard on a KTM.... the standard pads, with the standard 4 pot easly lets you do stoppies tho

 

i was just wondering about my pick up tho, just for road use
