Greenline MPG challenge! Can you beat the record...

Featured Replies

This summer I managed to get over 69 mpg on a 100+ miles trip.

Can you do better?

The challenge is to set the record for best mpg and posting a photo on this thread.

Of course whilst always adhering to the Highway Code.

Prize is a virtual award on this thread.

Come on and show your best MPG!

Please post a picture and some helpful tips how you've achieved your MPG.

Good luck.

Ah ha. Look forward to beating you!

Wait till the summer comes. I reckon I might even top 80mpg. Ace car.

No way you'll beat that.

And you are not allowed to have your car towed on the motorway ????

This is my best on my commute home from work. It was in the summer and I took a steady drive home. Its a mix of motorway, B roads and 20mph zones. 33 miles and I can gaureentee I didn't hold anyone up and not the slowest car on the road. Just waiting for warner weather so the mpg comes back up. Struggling to get 60 mpg now.

A couple more from earlier commutes

Its got to be one of the best features of the car, oh and the £30 road tax

That's very impressive. Any top tips?

£30 road tax is very refreshing indeed. Especially compared to my wife's £280 road tax in her little sports car :)

Driving from Hampshire to Exter tomorrow. Trying to get 60 mpg will be the target with these sort of temperatures.

69mpg to Stansted and 69mpg on the way home one week later. (150 miles each way)

Summer...........I expect 80. :)

Not bad for winter conditions. Let's see what we'll get when temperatures finally get above 10c again.

Most days I see 72-75mpg on display 1 (like the above) either going to or returning from work. I have on one occasion seen 80mpg on a single trip of about 90 minutes.    My long term average as shown on display 2 in the computer is currently 66mpg over the last 9500 miles.

I've got a TDI CR 170 estate and have seen an indicated 73mpg after my 17 mile drive home from work. It's a mix if motorway and A roads. Air con was on, but did stick to 55mph max and 1500rpm rev limit

Best ive had was 61.6mpg at 70mph on the way to liverpool and got 57 on way back. Not bad to say its a 170 tdi

Sent from my GT-S5830 using Tapatalk 2

I didn't take a pic but I did 71.1 mpg from Oxford to Heathrow Terminal 3 for a pickup, the round trip average was 69.00

What a load of saddos we all are.  :giggle:

Don't want to rain on anyone's parade, but isn't the "fuelly" or "spritmonitor" value more reliable? I get 45 mpg on a 400 mile round trip to the Netherlands, with an average (on the BC) 78 mp/h. Sure I can do 50+ mpg, being overtaken by every Tom, **** & Harry (and their mothers in law) but where's the fun?

Kevberlin, well yes maybe some of us are a bit sad     l drive 40k a year and its my own hard earned that pays for it, so the difference between 49mpg like I had in my previous Mondeo and 66mpg I get now is well worth being the saddest guy on my street

One very warm summer's evening, I pulled up on the drive with the maxidot show 84mpg.

It was a 60 mile journey, up the M1 and the remainder on dual-carriage way. Did 60 miles per hour most of the way but extremely gentle on the throttle and coasted in gear up to the roundabouts rather than braking so much.

The car was only a couple of weeks old. MPG seems to have got worse as it gets older. Also mpg seems to be quite sensitive to ambient temp.

Same journey driving briskly still seems to deliver 60mpg on the maxidot though. So happy bunny really.

Okay so I just managed 66.2 on a fairly long drive from Exeter to Basingstoke mainly on A roads.

Not a bad score considering temperatures were between 2 and 4C.

But how some if you guys/gals get mpg's of over 70 is a mystery to me.

Last summer I had some pretty good runs along the M4 behind a national express bus. ( free wifi included if you get close enough). But still no 70 mpg :(

On the subject of us mpg dodgers being boring. What can possibly be boring in avoiding paying taxes!

Also, if your employer reimburses you 45 pence for every mile you drive than surely doing 70 mpg instead of 45 makes sound financial sense.

That's amazing. My greenline doesn't even get close to that. Even when I drive as gentle as possible. Maybe I should have my greenline checked by the dealer.

Great game! My 2.0 CR TDi (non-greenline) 140hp/320nm => 186hp/405nm once got 64 MPG, usually I'm between 55-60 MPG...

Best mileage is on the motorway, the car just loves to sit at 65 MPH in 6th. I also have a girlfriend who hates it when I'm nagging or moaning about people holding me up, so it's a good way to remove that annoyance...

"Good runs behind a national express bus"

Wow!!

When you take the free wifi into account then this is better than the person last year or the year before that said their best mpg was while tailgating wagons!!!

Just how close do you have to get to enjoy the free wifi??

Pesmog. I am with you mate. I love the mpg game. I am seriously sad.

My trick to getting high mpg;

I rarely do a journey less than 90 minutes

The first 5 minutes while engine is cold seem to be important. If I drive it gently when its cold I get much better average numbers at the end of the journey

I coast in gear down long hills with the cruise off and do a long coast to roundabouts and junctions

As my daily commute involves 75 miles on the M25 and M11 each way I don't get much chance to drive it over 65 mph as even at 6am its four lanes solid travelling at 50-60 mph

I use cruise a lot.

When I go away on holiday up north to areas where there are lots of hills I am lucky to ever better 62mpg average for a trip so the kind of roads do make a major difference. The car really seems to like long spells of 60-65 mph on motorways and dual carriageways.

Veloplus will probably be along before long with his Greenline mpg average. He is normally just a tiny bit better than me.

I wonder if this summer we will get a photo entry of 80mpg plus on the forum.

Well you'd have to be in the slipstream zone. Wifi is complementary with the high mpg :)

Also these national express busses easily do 70 mph. Just a shame that they always seem to take a few exists too early.

And although you can utilise their wifi it is very difficult to use their toilet facilities.

  • 11 months later...

Last week on a trip to Manchester i achieve 74.9 smiles per Gallon, on my last car Octavia Est Se, i managed 90.5 so the challenge is on, slowly slowly catchy monkey.
