Metal recycling places should have a direct link to DVLA and issue a certificate of destruction when you take in a shell with no V5.

Normally not something your local metal collection chap has - but take it to an actual metal recycling facility, and most "should" have DVLA link.  I know one place connected to work got it installed about 4 or 5 years ago.
