MAF, MPG and a guessing game?

Featured Replies

After a lot of reading a majority of MPG issues boils down to the MAF.

Now on my Golf it had an aftermarket MAF, it pulled really rubbish low down and mpg was crap. Easy to spot. Easy to change. Pricey though.

So on my fabia, it pulls fine, its a genuine bosch one but I'm still getting naff MPG. Less than my big heavy golf!

So using VCDS, is there any way to spot a dodgy MAF or is there anyone local-ish to me who wouldn't mind swapping temporarily a working MAF to diagnose? I'm located between hereford/shrewsbury

cheers

You can use VCDS or another suitable software tool to log requested MAF and actual MAF at wide open throttle (WOT), i.e. find an empty road and floor it in 3rd.

Other culprits for poor mpg are the fuel tempearture sensor and the coolant temperature sensor.

You can also try unplugging the MAF and seeing what it feels like to drive - if it's no better with MAF plugged back in chances are it's broken.

Hi

No codes. I did a WOT last night (private road of course) and got the following results for turbo boost and MAF.

Seems to max specified at 850 but fetches over 1000 settling down to 900-odd at red line.
