Audi S1 BRIEF REVIEW in Autocar and Autoexpress today.

I'm quite surprised that the Leon cupra isn't selling much as in person they're quite something.

I guess this has a lot to do with more people buying diesel 'hot hatches' over petrol ones due to economy.

Not having a VRS fabia 3 in the pipeline is a huge fail in my eyes. Eff off the ridiculous insistence on auto over manual and people will lap it up.

It frustrated me when the Skoda head of business said, "only old people buy Skoda's so the vrs just won't work with the majority of our market.' Clearly doesn't know the market then.

The fabia 2 vrs models in my eyes didn't sell well because they just didn't look sporty enough! Kind of like a green loaf of bread on wheels.

They've got it right with this new model they just need the engines to compliment it.

The Skoda CEO is quoted as saying, "If they want a vRS they can buy a Octavia.",

They do not seem to get it that not everyone wants Taxi Size or styled cars.

As to the All New 3rd Generation Fabia, i am not so sure on them getting that right.

I was looking at a Metallic Red Fiat Stilo last week, and i think it had better build quality then a

2015 Fabia will.

As to the DSG, they are wonderful IMO.

In the 280 or R / S3,  or Twinchargers.

Interesting little car. Wouldn't mind having a go in one though it's pricey for what it is.

Same mate. Nice little car.

I was speaking to a bloke that was on about getting an S1 and didnt understand why hes not seen many.

It wasnt till i pointed out (cos George pointed out to me) that the s3 is a lot more car at not much more money that he realised.

Hes having a rethink.

I'd be lost in the vast space of an Octavia! I've always liked compact cars anyway - I had two Lupos and cars don't come much more compact than that!

If I replace the vRS in the second half of next year I'm really not sure what I'd go for. The Mountune upgrade on a Fiesta ST could probably overcome any misgivings I have. On the other hand, I might be better going for something older and classier - the owners of both the local garages I trust (one a VAG specialist) drive old Audis - depreciation has been and gone and with my very limited mileage I won't add many to the clock.

I might be biased, but if you're after a compact car get a Volvo C30 T5 (petrol) or D5. Never driven anything like it before, and it comes with a **** tonne of extras!

If you don't like them however, I'd probably suggest a Nissan Silvia S15 Spec R :D Completely impractical, vaguely compact and pretty rare.

It is quite funny seeing all these posts about a MK3 fabia vRS, specially as when it was confirmed that there was going to be a MK3, it was also stated that there would be no vRS or a derivative of this ( power wise), the Monte Carlo version was hinted that it may be continued into the MK3.

I agree that they are making a mistake leaving this model out of the range in order to try & get younger customers into the brand, as the S1 does look a bit expensive to entice the younger new customers to the Audi brand,so am not really surprised these are not selling , a bit like the mk2 fabia vRS didnt sell very well.

Anyone that wants the smaller affordable 'Hot Hatch' is now limited.

'Fizz',  Emotional, Crispy, Sportier, etc

('Squat' was deleted earlier this year, once the Media Department understood the translation.)

http://autoexpress.co.uk/skoda/fabia/89002/new-monte-carlo-model-to-add-fizz-to-skoda-fabia-range

The Monte Carlo was part of the Skoda Build up of 'Insiders tell us',  that Skoda do with every new model.

Leaking to Autocar, Auto Express etc.

Then Press Releases from Skoda, as usual in Australia & India first, then the European Media.

As to the CEO & 'no more Fabia vRS,  if they want one buy a Octavia', then Skoda had another Executive doing the Hinting,

& 'If people want them, we like to build them',  stuff, and the other Hinting that they do. on Facebook etc.

re the Audi S1,

There are plenty of wealthy young in the UK that buy prestige cars, or their parents buy them,

Even not hot, but the likes of BMW MINI's and spec them up to as much as a Audi S1.

I doubt very much that the Audi Marketing of a Small Hot Audi, was aimed at 'Schemers & Chavs' looking for a cheap fast motor.

Speaking of schemers and chavs, the only people I've seen in the new Fiesta ST have been lads that look barely over 17 and chavs.

Don't want to be that person, but that immediately put me off it. Plus it looks like a fish with its mouth gaping open.

On the flip side the people I've seen interested in the S1 appear to be people looking for a fun run about as a second car, middle aged men that want an 'entry level Audi' (hah), or as you say young professionals earning a decent whack.

I am not young,

so an embarrassment really when driving anything, & a Fabia is probably just right for infirm / incontinent oldies.

The guy i spotted last week looked so proud in his Fiesta ST, i let him out, and then had to crawl behind him,

he was Middle Aged, and it looked like his Sunday car.

I did wish he had not put the Yellow Badge under the ST to tell everyone it was a bit more special.

When i got feed up and passed him, he seemed to take offence.

He would have been better off dropping 2 gears and booting it.

I'm glad this thread has been energised again at last.

However, haven't read any input from the one owner member I know or any others yet..

It would be interesting to read Jose DB's comments ,living with his well equipped car day to day.

Note! Demo and or 1 owner vehicles currently at Audi Dealer Nationally.

3dr Version 28

Sportback 30

Total =      58 @ Dealerships Currently advertised for sale..

So does that mean approx 50% registered with private / business etc.owners.

When I did the analysis on selling price for these cars it was, I believe approx. £27500,think the numbers in dealership are pretty much the same (same cars) and my estimate is that the selling price average is now £26500, a month on.

Toyota / Subaru quickly found out after all the awards and praise that People were not buying / ordering

GT86 / BRZ in any numbers

New or Ex Demonstrators,

& the were 6 months then 12 old sitting on forecourts (& Autotrader) with no private owners on the V5.

So the Price is down and there are Bargains as a new car.

Audi do not have the same praise for the S1, surely losing their touch at getting professional roadtesters to big them up, and the usual bright colours of ones they have out and about like Yellow to get them noticed

is not going to be that popular as a used car.

So how low the price of used gets before Audi UK need to act and get unsold Demonstrators off the market will be worth watching.

I do wonder how much discount an Audi Dealership would be allowed to go to get some sold??

Not the Audi way though.

I might be able to afford one in 5 years time! :p After it's been ragged to hell.

Cheapest Golf R in approx. basic spec, is about £28OOO with 5000miles on the clock.,and it's in a different league in my opinion. Source VW used / Autotrader.

So save those pennies.

I certainly prefer the look of the R over the GTI, although I've read a few reviews and many say the difference in price isn't justifiable and you may as well just get the GTI.

I've never driven either so can't say, but it does make me wonder..isn't the GTI just as good?

R is in a different class, but then I'm biased.

Read the various reviews that will tell you!

See the R thread on here.

The Golf GTI or GTI with Performance pack is not as good as a Leon Cupra 280 IMO.

& really comparing to a Golf R or S3 is missing the point of part time AWD.

Agree on performance George, but not on all round Quality and finish.

I'll sit tight until they release the Golf R 400 please! *Drools*  Or better yet the Polo R!

I can't wait ,as I 've been promised the test drive in each by my friendly VW dealer.

Oh! also the new Polo GTI when it is arriving in February 2015. See what the Fabia vRS COULD BE LIKE, if the Skoda CEO had the ball to do the right thing!

If Quality is costing thousands more, then fair enough if you can afford it, or as a keeper, or you get the discount.

Lower quality & VFM is why many will settle for a Skoda or Seat rather than have a VW or Audi.

Shop around George ,they are out there,I found that out with the R.

Lucky man, look forward to hearing more about them! Only thing that 'erks me about the Polo R is that there's no manual option :/ Chuffed to hear with the new Polo GTI it WILL have a manual option, so hopefully the R will follow suit.

I just find auto's so soulless, especially in hot hatches. I know this is personal preference.
