Not really,

just best check now when new,

to know where it is when cold, maybe do a Proper Hot check, and then keep an eye 

on it as shown in the Owners Manual.

 

Take care to never overfill. Cold Check level should help there with that.

Just rejected my 62 plate Fabia VRS as just had its third engine fitted in 9500 miles and 3 oil consumption tests. If you know its burning oil and in warranty keep taking it back and insist the work is carried out. Skoda UK are aware CAVE engines have oil tolerance issues and I have found them so far happy to do what is needed.

Got my replacement 63 plate VRS with CTHE engine 8 weeks ago. 1100 miles done and no oil on dipstick and warning light on. Looking to reject this one now which was to replace 62 plate VRS with CAVE engine( actually the 3rd engine it had in the 12 months I had that one.

 

SKODA have managed to create two oil eating engines , they should get an award for that as not many manufacturers can mess up 2 engines so well usually

Actually, I don't think that it was Skoda that "created" the twincharged engine used in the vRS - maybe you should PX it for a Polo?

Rejected my VRS for a second time. This one with the CTHE engine used more oil in the consumption test than the CAVE engine. 470 miles on test to have oil warning light on. Apparently used 0.63 of a litre more than it should have. Have now stated will not accept a replacement VRS as had 2 cars and effectively 4 engines so need to choose something else. This has been for around 16/17 months in all. Might just give in and have an ordinary Fabia with a boring engine as had enough of the hassle.

Lord almighty I'm very sorry, and very nervous, on reading how badly things have gone for you. Mine is due in for its first oil consumption test next Thursday and I'm a bit nervous and concerned about the whole process.

 

What you have gone through though is on a different level, quite shocking actually. Hopefully you are able to choose another car without all those problems, you must be stressed out your box.

My case is now with Tom at Skoda UK Exec complaints apparently, will speak with him tomorrow. Dealership have sent them the rejection paperwork and valued my car although I don't know what they valued it at. Was £12995 in April 2014, be interesting to see how much they have devalued the car in 4 months. Will see what they are prepared to offer, asking for all money back may be the option to go for rather than the new Black Edition with the boring engine as I'm not prepared to contribute anything to the change. I've already given 17 months of my life to them whilst I've had the 2 VRS's and various engine replacements.

 

Will update with news hopefully in the not too distant future of leaving the unreliable world of the Fabia VRS

There was a period of a bout 3 months last year where wholesalers were refusing to take a trade-in on a VW group product as they had such a terrible reputation for oil use, bad injector wiring, bad DSG gearboxes & general gremlins that the dealers can't fix.  Prices went through the floor.

Prices did not go through the floor on them in the UK,

they were cheap in the first place except where people paid full price when new.

Over 3 year old you still got offered more than 50% of purchase price & you could achieve more than that selling them.

 

The owners of VW Polo GTI, or Audi A1 185's often had to take a big hit on depreciation, but then they probably paid too much in the first place.

Just thought that I would add a note regarding the oil consumption test carried out on our car yesterday, the car failed by the way, but at no point were we ever asked to consider paying for the test so no problems on that front for us.

Through the floor?? The Fabia vRS was cheap as chips in the first place so it's impossible to lose much cash on the thing.

As my other car is an Mr2 roadster that has just had a full rebuild from oil usage it's nice to know my car choices are consistent...

From what I'm reading best way to avoid issue is to drive it moderately hardly for the first 1k....

My Partners CTHE 13/63 Plated vRS, has a 55 mile daily commute ,is driven reasonably briskly and over her last 6000 miles consumed only 0,5 litre of oil and is returning mid to top 30's mpg.  

 

True test will be over time I guess, as her 1st vRS CAVE had an engine replacement at 43000 miles but was always a fun car until about 35000 when it's love of oil set in.

 

However, the car never let her down and was 100% reliable.

Welcome to the forum.

Enjoy the car, and the engine should be fine,

 

Best not drive it moderately hard in the first 1,000 miles,   & that is nothing to do with the engine,

 

First thing is go to a garage and set your tyre pressures & the TPMS.

Then it will take a couple of hundred miles to get the greeness off the Tyres. (run them in.)

 

Fill up with Super Unleaded, because the garage has in Regular Unleaded.

 

Then the Running in is to get the Coating off the Discs & Pads & stretch the Hand brake Cable.

Let your springs and Dampers settle in.

Let your bearings have an easy start to life.    Generally let everything settle, just as you would with a new push bike.

 

500- 600 miles and it will be well settled, you will have booted it a few times, the tyres will be worn in and the brakes.

Fully enjoy it.  

Well that is my belief in running them in.

What type of money are they in the UK?  In AUS they are about AUD28k  (about GBP15k).

 

There were some issues regarding a death in a VW last year & the media went crazy on it.  VW handled it very badly & trade-in prices plummeted.  Skoda AU is controlled by VW AU so the mud sticks.  Skodas aren't overly cheap here because VW AU control the prices & they don't want Skoda stealing VW sales.

We have so many problems with VWs down here.  Especially with the 1.4 twincharge & the DQ200 DSG box.

 

It's not helped that people have high expectations because VW market both VW & Skoda as aspirational vehicles.
