It's (nearly) here... Again!

Featured Replies

No problem from my dealer when I requested no valeting but they did miss a small blemish in the paint on the nsf wing. Thankfully its small and well masked with the white finish, so hapy to leave it.

Anyway hope the replacement is better than the first.

Well hopefully the painting robots have been fixed in the 6 months between builds!

I've actually really enjoyed the car although been slightly disappointed in the mpg, even on sensible runs. I'm blaming the hills round here as it seems you're always going up one no matter where you go. Saying that I have seen 52mpg on the way back from work once or twice when I wasn't trying, mind you I have also seen 28.9mpg on the same journey when I REALLY was trying! ;)

So glad I didn't get the tsi, lovely to drive but I would've been crying every day watching the fuel gauge empty. Besides, what the tdi lacks in straight line speed it makes up in the twisty bits. I believe a man once said "Straights are for fast cars, corners are for fast drivers" B)

I missed you first car's paintwork thread Mike, have you got a link.

Regards

T

Forgive me for being a bit thick but please explain why you don't want the car valeted

It's simply because they made a hash of it the last time.

Scratched the paint in the wing mirrors, scratched the gloss b pillar trims and left adhesive residue on the paint and on parts of the interior.

My thinking is that if don't want the car scratched and will have to do stuff again then I may as well do it myself!

Well the car has turned up a day early! Dealer has called to say to pop up and check it over but the DP is having a once over too.

Apparently one of the alloys has been chipped in transit but it's being replaced.

Now if the kitchen fitters would stop yapping and get finished I can go and have a look!

After all the hassle you have had I hope you get the "perfect" motor you paid for and deserve.

You're old thread has filled me with dread! I'll be going over the car millimeter by millimeter when I collect it!

Well I've been to see it and it looks great, despite being covered in plastic and dust.

There is just one small problem, well two to be exact. 2 pin holes in the blooming paint!!

Right in the channel where the sealant is on the roof. They had spotted it already (apparently up after my first vRS the dealer checks every cars roof and have had a few with problems) and arranged for their bodyshop to sort it but wanted me to see it first - Skoda had called when I was there and as it's a new problem (isn't it always!) they want to inspect it so it can be investigated.

Not too bad as that'll push the delivery to 1st of March now.

Hats off to them for spotting it and the mark on the alloy. I'd have probably noticed the alloy when I washed it and figured I'd have done it!

What is it with the paint?!?

Good news your replacement has turned, fingers crossed this one is what you wanted first time around, and incidentally, it looks exactly the same as mine at the moment!  All wrapped awaiting Xmas morning almost!!!

A question (although I don't know if anyone knows the answer) - is it a sealant in the roof join, or is it brazed (yes, brazing) like some other VAG cars?

  • Author

I don't think it's brazed. There's a video somewhere of the production and there are robots applied sealant along the roof panel edges. It was also visible on my car when the dodgy paint chipped off the excess sealant.

  • 2 weeks later...

Well my car is back from the paint shop - eventually!

The dealer emailed me asking when I'd like to pick it up, from Wednesday onwards. Er, that'll be Wednesday then!

Actually looking forward to it and spending a day cleaning it properly :)

Well it's actually here!

Chuffed to bits and only managed a quick wash yesterday, full detail will come next week when I've got time.

Thank god I had some clay bar though at the rear bumper sill was covered in rust spots from iron filings, as was the chin bit on the front bumper, all gone now though - phew!

Now there is something I've noticed, the sound generator is changed. When I drove it away I thought the exhaust hadn't been attached properly as there was a real low down grumble compared to the last car but I went away when I put the car in normal mode.

It's not rattling or anything just operating at a low rev range and making a different noise. I'm sure I'll grow to ignore it although it depends what it's like when the engines being pushed, it's still only got 50 miles on the clock so I'm taking it extra easy!

With your luck in cars I wouldn't be playing the lottery if I was you... :)

Congrats on your new one and lets hope it stays out of trouble.

Same here!

I'm really liking the white with the black bits and the heated seats are damn toasty!

I just hope this sound generator thing isn't a fault!

Glad you've finally got it Mike, and sorry to see you've had a couple of minor issues
