Firstly those of you expecting an excited, happy thread I feel I have to apologise in advance for reason that will become clear.

Picked up my new vRS today and everything was grand until we started checking the vehicle over.

1)First thing I noticed is the tints the dealer arranged to get done for me all need redone as EVERY window as a multitude of bubbles.

2) valet standard exceptionally crap (please don't tell me that's why I shouldn't have let them loose on it, the thought had crossed my mind and I wish I hadn't) - sticky residue nearly on every panel despite it meant to have had autoglym life shine applied. 3 blind nice spring to mind. I fact there was still blue protective plastic on the interior lights!

3) seems to be a factory paint fault around the read badge on the tailgate. Paint seems a paler shade but there's nothing to feel. Almost like its been wiped around the badge with something that's bleached the paint slightly.

4) drivers upper door seal somehow (not sure if factory or dealer) was turn into the window channel for an inch or so so is now baggy and had creases in it.

5) glass b pillars on the drivers side have more swirl marks than my 8 year old car I traded in. (Yes I know, I shouldn't have let then wash it)

6) some **** has scuffed the bottom edge of the bumper. So that'll be getting re sprayed then.

7) mirror caps the dealer got sprayed black need done again as there appears to be dust/dirt under the paint.

I know most of the "faults" are just valet stuff and the rest is fixable but it's out such a damper on getting the car I'd almost rather have my x-type back.

Anyway, for those that wanted to see the black pack on silver here you go.

Oh and I had to delete someone else's contacts from the phone menu. So much for getting a spanking new car eh?!

That is such a bummer for you. Have you left it with or are you to return it next week?

Hope it is all sorted to your satisfaction as soon as possible.

To be fair they arranged for me to go in next week when suits me and the DP said he'd give me his car to use while mine is being sorted. And I didn't have to make any noise for them to get things sorted. The business manager was doing the handover and from is demeaner he wasn't happy at all. Not in an angry way, just in a quite, very disappointed way.

I just hope the paint work is up to scratch or I'll never be happy. And they know that already. If only it wasn't bloody silver!!

Sorry, have to apologise for typos etc in the original post - using my phone and wasn't really in a check before posting mood at the time!!

Well just home from another trip to the dealer. There is a movable air bubble under the paint on the roof over the panel joint. Also the joints at the corners at the top of the windscreen are VERY poor and one in particular appears to be barely painted.

So it's down to skoda to see what they are going to do. So basically there are 5 paint flaws to be seen to.

I can see the car going back as there's no way they will be able to paint the affected area without it sticking out a mike due to the flake in the silver paint.

Damn it!!

Really sorry to here this, I bet your totally gutted after all the wait and anticipation to then have all these problems. I can't believe that the dealer didn't pick up on all the defects when they PDI'D it. Not exactly good customer service or advert for them. I hope they give you some good compensation as an apology at least.

  • Author

Yeah I know. I think the service/valet staff might be getting a good talking to as the one thing I noticed before I decided to take the car was the the carpet covering on the "ski hatch" had lifted at one corner but it hadn't been fixed despite it being noted on the order form.

Like it said the dealer fit stuff like the mirror caps (one of which isn't back in right) and the tints are all being sorted but it's the paint defects that are going to be a right pain. I mean it left the factory like that so the dealer is the last person that shoulve noticed.

We'll see what happens but at the moment if got a car sitting in the drive that I don't really want and have no interest in to be honest.

Normally it would've been washed, polished and pampered by now but I can't see me ever washing it!

Even if it gets sorted I'll always know it wasn't right and I've got a feelin the apathy will become permanent.

:-(

Reject it, what else is going to be wrong if the quality control missed multiple obvious surface defects. Dealer should never have released it to you.

  • Author

Already suggested that to the dealer. Going to call skoda tomorrow, as is the dealer.

Here's a question for anyone that had their vRS already, does the diesel have the symposer thing? No setting for it in the individual driving modes and sport doesn't sound any different.

Had intended in turning it off anyway to be honest but if it ain't there and it should be it's another reason it's got to go back.

Thanks again and sorry for the negative post - nothing worse when you're sitting waiting for your own to arrive!

Sound like your dealer really has no idea what they're doing....

After four Octavia's this sounds like a reason not to buy another. Cheap materials inside and generally dumbing down of overall quality whilst hiking up the price. That's a no no in my book.

No need to apologise for a negative post - you are merely posting the facts about your car, which provides valuable information for others on here.

Ref the car, I think the logical next step is to reject the car. Clearly the faults you have described are not going to be rectified quickly and even if they are you are ALWAYS going to know that they have blemished the car.

What has happened, has happened - it is now over to Skoda UK and the dealer, how they deal with it will be clincher, let's see their customer service now.

Hope you get things sorted, can't be nice.

Regarding the sound generator, open the bonnet and look right under the middle of the windscreen. You should see a fairly small cylinder attached to the chassis. It comes with the Mode selection button as an option, at least in Romania.

Sorry to hear about your problems, that must be SO dissapointing. I hope it all gets sorted to your satisfaction.

Oh dear, what an absolute nightmare! Totally understand you're underwhelmed feeling mate-I'd be gutted!. Your dealer, as others have said, has really let you down. What should have been an exciting enjoyable experience has been ruined. Hope you get it all sorted mate. I'll be hopefully picking my new mk3 octy vrs estate up at end of October/ beginning of November and I'll be checking it over like a forensic scientist!!

Mike, if you feel so bad about the car, take my advice and hand it back to the dealer. You're well within your rights, I believe.

If you're already feeling so low about the car, it's unlikely to improve going forward and you'll have paid/be paying a lot for your new vehicle.

Apart from your mortgage, it's probably your biggest spend each month and you need to be deeply happy with your commitment.

I feel for you, I really do. :-(

I'll pop some pictures up in the morning and see what you all think.

The more I think about it the more I want to reject the car but that leaves we with some questions and potential problems.

A) does the bad paint, bearing in mind it's actually a small percentage of the body work (from Skodas point of view), give me enough reason to actually reject the car

B) will they source me another one or simply give me my old car back? Needs mot' and taxed and pretty sure it's needing work done to pass hence changing cars!

C) if they accept the car back and say they will find a replacement will I have to go to the back of the build que and will they let me keep using the car I've just got until the replacement turns up?

And has anyone rejected a car before? What's the actual procedure?

B) should be "b)" obviously!!

Interesting reading! Tried to send her a message but got an error saying she can't use the messaging feature. I wonder if it's because we're both new members. Ah well, never mind.

Mike,

I rejected my car last year.

Had it 2 days before taking it back to dealer who diagnosed a major engine fault. Skoda UK were prepared to replace the engine under warranty, however, i wasn't happy that my brand new car required such major surgery and therefore rejected the vehicle.

My dealer was fantastic during the whole process.

Told me to write them a letter stating reasons for rejecting the vehicle, quoting sale of goods act and so on( i can pass this on to you if you want to use it as a template). Luckily, i only had to wait 3 weeks for a replacement as i had only ordered a bog standard SE from group stock and the dealer provided me with an Octavia courtesy car during this period.

It is the dealer who ultimately decides whether to accept your rejection or not as you bought the vehicle from them. Skoda UK will direct you to the dealer as your contract is with them. In my case i had the dealer on-side from the beginning so the whole process was stress-free as they took care of it all.

Hope everything works out for you!

Sorry to read your post. I agree with the others. You should reject your car. At the end of the day you want to be happy with what you have got especially it is paid for from your hard earned money! A few weeks wait is better than a few years stress.

Bloody hell mate that's not good enough !! Reject it. Paying that sort of money for a brand new car you expect is as pristine. You would expect that sort of thing on a second hand car not a new one off the production line.

Get rid......its the only way Skoda will do something about quality issues if they keep having cars come back to them. I know there are always going to be some bad apples in the process but doesn't mean you have to accept them.

Reject it and everyone who has not got their car yet, when you go to collect after dealer has done their PDI, go over it with a fine tooth comb before you drive it away because things like paint damage would be a bugger to prove after you have had it.

That would grand if you could.

Going to contact the dealer this morning saying I've slept on it and I have now decided I want to reject it has looking at my pictures it's not going to be an easy paint job. The excess sealant under the paint on the drivers side roof will need rubbed back which means the side panels will be involved and the windscreen will need to come out. That isn't going to happen on a brand new car.

Wish me luck!

Well as promised here are a few photos.

Jesus. Who blind muppet passed that through PDI?!
