Octavia vRS Remap in South West

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I own a 2011 vRS 2.0 TSI and i live near Bath. I'm going to make some improvements when my insurance is due for renewal at the end of March. I'm having Eibach Pro springs fitted and i also want a remap. All the major remap companies like Shark and REVO seem to be miles away from me. can anyone recommend a good remap close to Bath/Bristol? i ideally want to go to a garage rather than a mobile service and a run on a dyno would be preferred.

Many thanks for any replies

Volkscraft in exeter are good.. but its a hour or so drive but don't have a dyno..

luckilly in the bath chippenham area its not that bad really.

As for maps, get onto facebook and look for Avon Tuning. They are near bristol. Dont have a dyno but the service is top notch

Had mine done by performance re map gloucester. The difference now is amazing!!!

I also had mine done at Performance Remap in Gloucester. Turned a quick car into a proper weapon.

As previous response, Volkscraft in Exeter are amazing.

They are official dealers for Revo, mine was done 4 years ago and still stunning.

Volkscraft.com I think.

Theres quite a few in Bristol, Streetwise Auto do REVO remaps on Gerrish Avenue. Speak to Tim or Mitch, and say Zeb recommended me for remap. They are VAG Specialists been going to them for 7 years. Theres 1 in Chipping Sodbury, called South West Car Intech name is Tom (I think) £280 inc VAT for remap and dyno test.

Matt at Volkscraft has done all the work on mine. Top bloke and wouldn't let anyone else touch it. Handy that he's a Revo dealer too.

I live near bath as well, South West In Car Tech looks to be the closest place with a dyno. I wish I'd known about it before I got my remap since I got an off-the-shelf one.

I'm liking the look of performance remap Gloucester. I've had a look at south west in car tech and they claim an increase to 260bhp which seems inflated compared to most of the rest. I've just had an email from Avon tuning stating that is I have a Bosch tune protected ecu they would have to remove it from the car to do it. Is that true?

I'm also looking for somewhere local to fit the lowering springs and do the wheel alignment.

We have a dealer in Swindon - see www.sharkperformance.co.uk/dealers

For wheel alignement go to FCM Motors, name is Lee cost me £50. I'm getting my Eibach Sportline springs fitted this Thursday from my local mechanic, if your willing to come down Bristol then I could send you his details.

Or you could use the shark STS no need to leave your driveway, and has the benefit of easily returning to standard (if others drive your car) and can read error codes.

I've been told that as mine is a tune protected ecu it needs to be removed from the car. Still struggling to find someone to do my springs. My local garage quoted £260 without 4 wheel alignment! Demon tweeks have quoted £150 for fitting and alignment.

You have been told incorrectly, we can tune the 2.0TSI Mk2 over the OBD port.

We can also fit your springs if you'd like to come to see us.

How come some companies can do it via OBD and others say it can only be done by removal?

Because some companies understand the car and some unfortunately don't in this case. We have tuned scores of these over the diagnostic port, and plenty of them for forum members if you need any reference.

Let me know how you get on, I am looking in the SW too. Thanks

I had my Ibiza Cupra 1.8t mapped by SWICT, SouthWest In Car Tech and thale chap that owns it is called Mark. Great bloke and good map for the money with a rolling road printout before and after mapping. Infinity exhausts next door as well

I've got a 12 plate vrs estate that's had the Ben treatment. You're not a million miles from me if you wanted an idea if what it's like, and how the STS unit works.

Where abouts are you? Am I right in thinking that because my car's map is downloaded onto the sts and then modified that is how it gets around the anti tune?

I live near Cardiff. No, the process essentially uses the STS device to connect to the OBD port to read and write files between the cars ECU and your PC. You download a bit if software onto your PC which communicates with the STS unit. The rest is done over email. Once you've got all 3 maps on the STS unit, it takes all of 2-3 minutes to switch between them (original, performance and immobiliser). There is no "anti-tune" on your car.

I'm just curious as to why so many tuners have to take the ecu out of the car and bench flash it. They go on about checksums and rsa etc. I'm not doubting it works, just can't understand why they all haven't developed a way of going through the obd. I like the idea of the sts as I've read a lot about dealers overwriting maps with ecu updates.

Because a lot of tuners probably use off the shelf software and probably don't really know what they're doing.

If you have the same ecu as me it will because its encrypted and as far as I know no one has so far been able to find a way of remapping it without disconnecting the ecu, opening it up and 'enabling' it before they can then do their stuff.

I'd suggest you ring shark to make sure the sts unit will work with your ecu as it wouldn't work with mine when I asked a few months ago. Superchips bluefin will, but again they have to enable the ecu first, it's not a simple buy it through the post and plug in job without physically touching the ecu on the latest vag ecus.

I'm not saying you won't be able to use the STS unit, just suggesting you check with shark that it will work ok.
