Octavia 1.9TDI Estate ?

Featured Replies

I have posted in the Superb forum and ask the same here, just how is the above car in terms of value for money, and when would have the last of the 1.9TDI engine have been put into the Octavia estate ?

I have a 2010 Fabia 1.6CR elegance hatchback and want something a bit bigger for holidays etc.

Thanks.

Hi, I'm sure someone will be along with definite dates but I had a late 2009 with the 1.9 but come early 2012 when I changed it was the 1.6 available and no 1.9, needless to say I went for the 2.0, have never liked the 1.6 in the Octavia!! I had 3 1.9 105bhp and whilst the engine is somewhat agricultural noise wise it always felt like it would go on for years and years.

I think 2010 saw the last of the 1.9

Cheers guys, at the moment considering if to go for the Octavia (with DSG) or opt for a Superb (in 1.9td guise).

Will let you know.

I like my 2006 1.9, its only the PD105 but i will be having it remaped soon. A remap should see around 130-140bhp with around 260-270lb/ft, hopefully. SMF conversion depends on 5 or 6 speed as to which kit it needs and wht it would cost, I will be getting a G60/VR6 kit when my DMF starts to fail which will be around £300 for parts and labour.

Agricultural? I think they are how a VW diesel should sound! It's different to every other diesel!

Go for a 1.9 DSG!

We love ours.

To give you an idea of economy.

I got an indicated 66.5mpg on the M62. I had 190 miles on the trip from the last fill up with it telling me I could drive a further 585!

The 1.9 isn't the smoothest but the DSG really helps get the most out of it.

And as above the newest car to get the 1.9 is 2010 FL.

  • 2 weeks later...

Just (Tuesday) got my 1.9tdi 09 estate remapped. It's early days but WOW. Completely different car. 145 bhp, but I told the guy I don't drive like a loon and he said it will suit me a treat, and it DOES! I will update mpg figures next time I fill up but at this rate it will be a long time yet! :)

The car is so smooth and torquey, I basically drive all the way home (20miles) in 5th, even at 30mph! The engine just seems stable now also on tick over... No jumping vibrating etc less noisy just flat smoothness!

I have put the foot down once or twice :) and it just goes. Put a smile on my face!

Early days but fully recommend so far.

Which engine does yours have? With 145 i would assume it is a PD110? Who did the mapping?

Mine was 105pd? Standard 1.9tdi

Torquetronics done it in ballymena n.i

I had my 105 remapped by Shark a few months ago.

A transformation, I can now overtake without waiting until we get to the Nulabor plain.

I don't normally drive fast n'furious, so the fuel consumption is if anything better.

I think many of the 105hp equipped cars came with 280mm brakes (????).

As I like traversing mountainous bits of France, fully loaded, the brakes HAD to be done.  Pre remap, I had managed achieve "well done" in the brake cooking competition and was still at the top of the Co de la Bonnett, Europe's highest through road pass (claimed).  So about 50 miles downhill to the plains in any direction with marginal brakes.  Without worrying my vertigo prone passenger.

The vRS brakes fit straight on, but require a few more parts changing - hubs for a start to accommodate the different caliper bracket  plus of course the caliper bracket itself and disc.  My set up came from a VW Scirroco -  there are a few possibilities and permutations from various VAG cars.

I think most if not all 312mm disc equipped use the 55mm suspension strut.  Most if not all 280mm disc equipped cars have 50mm struts.  So that needs to go in to the budget too.

Yes, a mate of mine has a 10 plate 1.9PD, which was one of the last available in the country.

As far as value goes, you'll go a long way to beat a 1.9PD. Agricultural, maybe, but second to none for economy and sheer reliability. And if it takes your fancy, the 1.9 is a perfect engine to look at remapping to around 140bhp, giving you power equivalent to the 2.0 litre, without the associated problems that seem to be there in that engine. And it can be converted to solid flywheel when (not if) the dual mass flywheel fails, unlike the 2.0.

I have had the hatchback 1.9 for 5 years now, and when I bought the estate, I made certain that I sourced another 1.9.

Been reading these forums for a couple of years and haven't seen any regular problems posted with the 2.0CR in fact very few at all. In fact most people recommend it over the 1.9 if you are buying a car in this transitional period as its so much quieter and the power band is not as notchy as the 1.9. The 1.9 is obviously excellent, but the majority of threads around this subject tend to say the 2.0cr is a big upgrade if you are in the market for a car from the period late 1.9 to early 2.0CR.

Would 288mm discs from a 1.9 DSG fit straight in I wonder?

Haven't ever got close to cooking the brakes in our car even with a lot of weight in on mountainous roads.
