Knob illumination

Featured Replies

Those tiny lights that shine down on the gear knob. Is it possible to turn them off?

I've been manly and searched and been un-manly and looked in the manual but I can't find any information :(

Nope, but you can cover them with tape?

Shame.

They're a bit of a distraction.

And I've never needed the light on to find my gearstick in 30-odd years of driving

Thanks for the info

I think they're a nice touch to the ambient lighting!

Never even noticed they were there until read about them on here. But I think they are a nice touch at night.

Have to agree, in my previous Elegance I thought they were a nice touch and never a distraction. In fact I would go as far as saying I miss them, as they aren't on my L&K due to having sunroof.

If Bobdog was here he would have a field day....

Yes, the way people phrase things has got very lax since Bob's departure. As a Newbie I quickly learnt to "think twice, post once" or pay the penalty!

^ why wot's rong with innuendo?

A woman went up to the cocktail barman and asked for an innuendo so he gave her one!!

The old ones are always the best, eh. ;)

They don't bother me, but then I don't drive after dark. :giggle:

I'm still trying to work out how they are distracting?

They just catch my eye occasionally.

I'll probably get used to them

Well, I've not got much choice, really

are you only 4'6" tall Gyp?   I can not see them unless I slouch in the seat and look up.

I'm sure someone on here without the Cat Vision can take them off your hands and swap them for a lesser models unit (err bad english!) ?

Not a problem Gyp, I work with a short guy, I read his CV, before he worked with us he was a test pilot for air fix and before that he has a lumber jack on a bonsai plantation  ;)

:p

Like Truthseeker, I've never noticed them in the 18 months of ownership.

Just sat in Yeti in garage, put sidelights on - bingo!

Mind you I'm a normal six footer, so had to stoop a bit to see them.

Got the hand book out, they are shown in the pics about map reading lights but not mentioned in the text.

What are they really there for?

Not to light the gear shift, surely?

A bit of light entertainment?

I think they're mainly intended to provide a little illumination for the climate control panel, possibly also the Bolero.  The markings on those black buttons would be difficult to pick out in pitch dark.  I doubt you'd actually be able to read a map by them - that's what the larger lights are for, the ones which you can switch on and off using the buttons in the ceiling panel, and which come on when you open the doors.  The ones described as "reading lights" on page 48 of the manual, in fact...

I'm with those who find the tiny lights no distraction at all; in fact I usually forget that they are there.

Can someone tell me what lights?

Possibly a photo please?

I have no idea what you are disgussing.

Thanks

The dealer never mentioned these little lights and I wondered where the light was coming from. I could see my hand when looking towards the centre of the cockpit at night. I rather like this. There are sometimes things I want from the central console and I can now see them without a problem. Nice touch!

Talking distraction, I had a problem with my smart phone the first time I had it in a dash mounted cradle. I had to change the wallpaper on the screen to one a lot less bright so it didn't dazzle me at night.

  • 3 weeks later...

If you like ambient lighting have a look at the Astra the interior lights up like an Xmas tree. They have red LED's everywhere, in the door handles, in the map reading lights above your head, in the creases of the centre console etc. The Yeti is minimal in comparison which imo is a good thing. Sometimes less is more.
