Done 700 miles in my new fabia estate vrs

Featured Replies

Hey guys/girls

I bought a black 2011 vrs estate last month. Think I got a pretty good deal. Just under 21k miles on the clock and I paid 10k for it. It's still under warranty with skoda until October this year. I was pretty happy with the deal I got. I'll probably consider extended warranty when October comes around. Before I bought the car, I spoke to Skoda cust services and they advised that no warranty work has been done on the car. I'm hoping that my car has no oil issues. I've not actually checked my oil levels yet. I'll try and put pics up in the next couple of weeks.

Extras were limited but I got the colour and wheels that I wanted, also black pack which looks amazing IMO. Think the only extras really are Bluetooth and rear parking sensors. Climate control would have been nice as the unit looks a bit more upmarket. I would have also liked rear elec windows but I'll live. Some under storage would have also been quite nice. Not bothered about cruise. Not a fan. I am tempted to fit a sat nav system. Think that will improve the look of the interior. I'll put some pics up in the next few weeks.

So far I'm well impressed with it. It took me a while to get used to the dsg but I do love it. By far the best auto box I've driven. At the moment I'm only really using D but have messed about with paddles. I've noticed that there's maybe a second delay when put foot to the floor until the beast unleashes. Is this normal? There doesn't appear to be any lag when using paddles so I've put it down to dsg lag? I think I will start using paddles more. Steering is very light. I'm adjusting to it slowly. I've been using 98 fuel from sainsburys. The first time I filled up I only used 95. I'll be honest. I can't really notice a difference at the moment. The maxi dot says I've averaged 28.7 mpg over 700 miles. That can't be right. The number 1 settings says that I'm getting 35 up to 38 highest on most journeys.

I've noticed a couple of probs but think they're minor really. The car likes to pull to the left. When crusing and also when booted. I know there's going to be some pull when floored because of the torque. I think the tracking is out anyway so dealers are going to have a look. Rear brakes appear to be grinding. I've put this down to the car being sat for a few months before I bought it but it's still grinding so again the dealers are going to have a look at it.

The only other thing I'm mighty ****ed about is a rust patch on the tailgate. It's at the bottom. Only couple inches across. Looks like previous owner has caught it with something. I can't believe I missed it when looking around the car. It's going to prob cost me around £100 now? I'm not very happy with the dealers at not telling me. I could have maybe got the price down. It's not from a skoda dealer but from a very well known nationwide dealers.

Well I've wrote the previous whilst waiting at the dealers to sort my tracking and check the brakes. They said that my pads and discs are fine and have put it down to a build up of ****e. Who knows. It's bloody annoying as hell though. Right. They've said that the tracking IS out. So they hooked it up to their machine and they set it to what is 'should be' according to Skoda and now apparently the tracking is even worse than before?? They've basically taken my car to a nearby garage and are trying it on a different machine as I write this...

Search out a tyre centre that has a Hunter digital alignment machine.

Had mine done not that long after it was (brand) new and it was out but when corrected the car felt more 'planted'. Well worth £50 - £60.

Well the tracking seems a little bit better but still not great...I'm not sure what machine it was eventually hooked up to. On the way home I popped into an official skoda dealers and they said that it's quite common with fabia vrs and it's more than likely due to the tyres. Possible? Like I say, it's still wanting to go left but the steering feels a lot heavier than usual?

I might try that Hunter machine that you suggested. If it worked for you then hopefully be the same for mine :-) cheers mate.

What tyres are fitted and run at what tyre pressures?

It is only common where the tyres or steering are at fault, or where Dealerships accept it as being quite common. Ar5es

But it is not as should be common.

Is the Sainsuburys Super Unleaded not 97 ron rather than 98 ron.

i just filled up with it because i could not get to a Tesco for 99 ron,

( £131.9 a litre for the Sainsburys,  but i would not use it if it had not been a necessity.)

SPARK PLUGS.

Maybe get the spark plugs changed for new ones.

You might notice the car go better and the fuel consumption improve.

Hi mate

Sorry yes you're right. Sainsburys is 97. I think it might have been Morrisons 98 actually. I filled up for about 65 quid and it said 310 miles but quickly went up to 340. I think I might need to try some 99. I have a Tesco close by so will use their 99. A good fuel then?

The tyres that are on at the moment are Evergreen's. I've not heard of them before. I'm assuming they're budget? When I initially picked up my car the tpms light was on so I just put in what was recommended inside fuel cap. Think 2.5 bar in front 2.4 in back mate.

Might consider putting some new sparks in. Thinking of new air filter too. Cheers mate

evergreens are cheapies.

Once you adjusted the tyre pressures, have you reset the TPMS?

Tesco Momentum 99 is 5 pence a litre or more, less than Shell V Power Nitro,

but with Tesco Momentum you can be pretty sure what you are getting.

I trust the Momentum

& I would pay the same or more than the Shell fuel costs just to be sure it is good.

Too many Shell Filing station Tank **** ups occur.

I've never been a fan of supermarket fuel and the contaminated fuel scandal involving Tesco sealed it for me - the only supermarket fuel I've used is Sainsbury's and even then the last time was 2004. I've been using Shell and nothing but Shell - other than when I've been 'caught short' - since 2005.

Yea I need to invest in some new tyres then I think. I might just have to stick with them for a while though cause haven't really got the funds at the mo. All the tyres are in really good nick. They can't be that old from looking at them.

I did reset the monitor. Going to check the pressures tomorrow. No warning lights have come on but I'm not sure how much pressure needs to be lost until I'm alerted?

Hi Brian

How many miles do you average to a full tank of shell?

Hi Brian

How many miles do you average to a full tank of shell?

Er, couldn't say now as I stopped bothering about miles per tank some time ago.

However, I'm pretty sure I used to get 300 - 330 miles before the needle hit the top of the red section - mostly urban driving but not stop-start in heavy traffic (I only really get a chance to use the car at weekends and holidays as I get the train to work).

How full do you mean.

the tank can have 45-55 litres in depending how you brim it or vent it.

10 gallons gives about 320 miles to 420  miles depending on how and where you are driving,

and its possible to get from low 20's to high 40's and into the 50's MPG.

No difference in 99 ron Shell and 99 ron Tesco really, but Greenergy that Produce Momentum for Tesco list the Specifications by season.

I have done more than 900 miles in the past 3 days, mostly near the Motorway NSL,

and have been getting about 40 mpg. 3 adults in the car.

Sounds good. If I can get 300/350 to a tank I'll be happy with that. Like you guys are saying about the supermarket fuels, I'm wasting my time with 95/97. Just gonna stick 99 in i think for the sake of an extra few quid per tank.

40 that's fantastic. Mines only been filled twice so think I need to do a few more fills to get a true accurate reading? My maxi said I've averaged 29 over the 700 odd miles. To be honest, I haven't been thrashing it so pretty concerned with that 29 haha. I know the auto readings aren't that great though anyway so hoping it will go up.

I think I paid 1.32 a litre the other day and I'm sure it was 65 quid so I reckon I managed to get around 50 odd litres in?

Well done on the purchase, sounds like. It is a none oil-user which is good. They are lovely little cars especially in estate guise!

Unfortunately the pulling to the left problem is very common. 29mpg is not unusual either although I suspect as you get used to the car and the novelty of booting it at every opportunity wears off I'm sure hat will improve.

you could always change tyres and stick the old ones on flea bay! I've done that before, when I bought some kumho's and they ruined the car! lol... its the most sensitive car to tyres I have ever come accross!

I have used sainsburys super before, and my car liked it!

and as Tom said, at least you have made 700 miles without the oil light comming on ! pmsl.... you got a good un ;)

Driven fairly sensibly you can get decent MPG's! post-78288-1392709616491_thumb.jpg

Above is my average over a couple thousand miles.

Considering the performance on tap it is a cracking little engine.

My commute is 60 miles round trip each day. Traffic is normally good so I get good running. I try to boot it at least once a trip. :-)

I get around 330-350 miles for £50 of Shell V-Power. Not bad. Still miss the cheapness of my old Mk1 though.

Hopefully mate! I never want to see that oil warning light ;-p. what tyres are you running now? Pretty good idea about fleabay! That's definitely an option.

Cracking mpg that mate. I think mine will improve when I go back work. Been off on annual leave for last 3 weeks so I've only really been doing short trips which doesn't help does it. Even if I average 35 I'll be happy :-) Fantastic mpg for the type of car.

Just gone through 1200 miles in my brand new VRS estate.  I am keeping a spread sheet (yes, I know, VERY sad!) to record MPG (not relying on the MaxiDot) and so far its doing an average of 38 - combination of 2 long runs and lots of short local ones to the golf club, including some 'heavy right foot' action - but not too stupid until its run in a bit.

Spoke to Skoda customer services about re-mapping the car for fuel efficiency.  They told me that it was a waste of dosh because all UK VRS models are mapped for 98 octane when they are delivered.  I ran a tankful of Sainsbury's 97 octane and got 32MPG - currently running on Tesco Momentum (99 octane) and the difference is very noticeable.  The 'man from Skoda' told me that they will run on 95 - but like a dog!  97 is OK but not ideal, however he said Tesco is the best juice for them - and so far, on this tank full, I can see a difference.  I will post MPG for Tesco when I fill up again.

Overall, as a 67 year old 'teenager', WHAT a hoot of a car!!  Goes round corners like its on rails - scares me to death when I 'floor it' and the look on BMW 'Rep' drivers faces when you pull away from the lights is worth every penny!!

They were talking guff at Skoda UK, whoever you were talking to..

Because regardless of a Standard CAVE or CTHE Engine being a minimum 178 bhp/180 ps to run on prescribed 98 ron.

You can have a map for more output, say 205 bhp, and then drive the same but use less fuel.

Your Skoda  Warranty might be void, but the car can drive more economic when you want,

or more spirited if you choice,

same car, same engine, more Power & Torque. 25 more BHP, might mean, and often does, you are at a different rpm at a given speed.

If you can hold at around 2,400 rpm and no turbo required, that is quite economic in a Twincharger.

2,400 rpm can be a different road speed with 180 ps than at 207 ps.

That might mean more speed, but getting the same economy.

100-102 ron in europe can mean better and a more efficient running engine, and at the same speed as on 98 ron,

better economy, ie drinks less fuel.

Surely someone working at Skoda might understand that, but only if they thought about it.

Hi Brian! Sounds like you're having fun just like me! :-) I love the car! I needed an estate for size. The hatch is also lovely but too small for me. I can't believe the amount of space, especially after taking out the back seat covers, allows the seats to lie completely flat. I fit a sofa bed in there with no probs! I think it's a brilliant motor and love the look and style of it. Especially the power on tap :-). I still get excited about driving the thing! I find quite a few people starting as I drive past.

It will be interesting to see your mpg using Tesco 99. As I've said in previous post, I'm going to fill up with their 99 as it's been highly rated by a lot of members on here.

Sk4- I didn't know that they use 100-102 in Europe! That's impressive
