Done 700 miles in my new fabia estate vrs

2,400 rpm can be a different road speed with 180 ps than at 207 ps.

Hi George, just curious how a mapped/higher powered vRS could have a different road speed at the same rpm (assuming both in the same gear) compared to a standard car?

I could bore you with pictures but i can assure you that between 2,400 & 3,500 rpm, were the Supercharger comes in on demand,

you can see the difference with more power on the Remapped engine where you are on Turbo and the Supercharger does not need to come in to assist.

Not exactly the same RPM, but near enough and the engine running efficiently, and sipping less fuel.

You maintain momentum, the same speed and momentum but you can be off the throttle,

just as you can drive more economically than Cruise Control can but travel at the same speed,

You have your RPM down before Cruise does.

On 102 ron, rather than 99 ron, you can drive at the same speed, but maybe use less fuel,

you are up to speed and can be off the throttle, and yes your RPM might be lower.

(your not going to save money with the 102 ron here, but th4e difference is notable on 100 & 102 abroad,

the engine just performs better, even as a standard Twincharger.

Much as it does in nice fresh cold weather.

I might bore you with one picture of a Stage one, and comparisons of RPM.,

but i am sure i did that on the thread before about 'S' & 'D', and road speeds. 'newbie69' might kill me if i do.

My take on it would be that the higher powered Fabia would increase its RPM at a faster rate (and therefore accelerate quicker) than the standard mapped car but when in the same gear and at the same RPM the road speed will be he same -as the gearing is identical. :-)

Apologies to the OP for the 'off topic'.

Hopefully mate! I never want to see that oil warning light ;-p. what tyres are you running now? Pretty good idea about fleabay! That's definitely an option.

I have goodyear winters on at the moment! lol.. I have bought these for the summer already though, with track days in mind... http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Federal/595RSR.htm

if you want a more rounded tyre mid range (£65-75 fitted) with good wet AND dry grip I would reccomend these.. (I have used them well! but want a more track focused tyre) http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Maxxis/MA-Z1-Victra.htm

Makes no difference in the same gear, so I assume you're suggesting that the DSG will shift into a higher gear with a higher power output engine?

Thanks shark. I've saved the links to my bookmarks :-) I'll hopefully get some on within the next couple of months. The Federal's look awesome.

Furby- don't worry about the off topic! It's all very interesting. I'd like to learn as much as possible. My vrs is the only fast/performance car I've owned! So a lot of this stuff is all new to me. I know some basics but that's about it :-)

I'm going to embarrass myself now with a list of previous cars...ford fiesta, pug 309, Daewoo lanos, renault Megane, pug 106 and a Citroen c3 (don't ask...) haha

tweenster,

what higher gear do you want, sitting cruising in 7th, which it can be in from 50mph to 130 odd mph, and 100 rpm drop can be the difference between being on Turbo, off Turbo or needing Turbo and Supercharger.

Get some miles in with your car, log and observe and see,

maybe try a APR Remap and switchable map, and when running it to suit the Octaine of the fuel,

or the BHP between standard and enhanced, you can check your self.

MLC, come along to some of the meets ect , and have a chat with us :) loads of midlands meets ect , there will be many at the briskoda stand at the April castle coomb meet! no track time left , but a clubstand ticket is only a tenner I think, and I would be happy to have you as a passenger for a lap or two ;)

I have just done 923 miles since I purchased my 2011 CAVE vRS hatch!

It's oil has dropped just below the 'A' area! So hope that's also a good sign!

It also pulls to the left need to get Hunter alignment check done!

Have used shell v power since I got it and have averaged 32.6 mpg! Urban and cross country runs! Did manage 46 mpg one day!

Tyres are standard Dunlops Sport Maxx and are very noisy but have loads if tread left so will wait! Think it will be Verdestien Or Uniroyals next time! Car is a hoot a few little rattles, but stiffer ride than previous car!

I had 10 years ago a mk 1 fab vRS that used to make me smile as well! This is def quicker trade off being mpg

Enjoy also having that mid life crisis????

Hey guys quick update!

I filed up with Tesco 99 the other day. I whacked just short of 70 quid in. My previous fill up was sainsburys 97 super.

When I first drove off the petrol forecourt it said 320 miles remaining in fuel. Since then I've done 80 miles and it's gone up to 380 miles! My mpg has definitely increased with Tesco 99. I averaged 41 this evening for a 16 mile journey! That included quite a bit of stop start through town. Very very impressive. My usual commute to work is 7 miles each way. With sainsburys 97 I was averaging 32/33 each way. With 99 I'm averaging 37/39 for those 7 miles. Very impressed.

Remember your car is new and the engine is tight. I noticed a sizeable improvement after the 20k mile mark! :-) Trip computer shows a 435 mile range after a £50 fill up. In real life I get 350 miles out of it. Enjoy :-)
