diesel

hi guys are the new octavias estates are good on diesel as the old estates thanks pete

If you go by the official figures mog for the III is considerably better, but most former II owners see only small improvements. Expect very slightly better and you won't be far wrong.

Plenty of threads on here Re: MPG figures. General census of opinion is that figures for Mk3 better than Mk2 equivalent, but claimed figures not really achievable in normal driving.

However, nearly all these cars are vey new, I wouldn't expect a diesel to start giving up its very best till it hits 30k miles, it'll be ok after 10k but not very bet so, go figure why they ain't impressed yet.

Not sure about the Mk II estates but my Mk III is rubbish on fuel. 41.2 mpg long term average. This, coupled with a tiny fuel tank means that regular visits to a fuel station are required.  Don't expect anywhere near the claimed official figures

My overall average a in my signature but this blighted by my daily commute which is only 5 miles each way. On a longer run 50mpg+ is easy.

Don't expect anywhere near the claimed official figures

This holds true for every car manufactured, so not really an issue for Octavia alone.

I'm the same as Neily 03 with a short drive to work and running her in doors to the shops giving a inbalanced to the mpg as when on the open road, with the wind in my hair, just over 60mpg has been recorded and i've just got 1000 miles on the clock so better things to come hopfully. 1.6 tdi estate with dsg box and eco setting selected.

Colin.

I'm doing 40ish mpg, 50 mpg on long runs down motorway doing under 80mph

only had car under  5 weeks. done just over  700 miles so far..should get better in time

display showed 400 miles in the tank when i filled up this afternoon

Picked up late June, 14k+ miles, 30 miles each way to work, 53mpg each time the long term rolls over at 100hrs. Some mornings 61mpg on the way to work, some days struggle to get 50. Load makes a difference, just 1 or 2 teenagers getting a lift hits the mpg.

Agree with improvement over time. Current long term at 55 but only 10ish hrs in.

2l tdi elegance hatch

Had my 2.0 TDi Elegance estate manual for a week now. Approx 400 miles on the clock.

Have predominantly run it in Sport mode and on my short 10 mile runs to work is already getting early/mid 40's which is pretty good considering its still v young and a bit tight. By comparison my older Mk6 Golf 2.0 140 CR was only averaging late 30's early 40's at 4k miles so its an improvement. Can see it easily being able to attain high 50's low 60's with a bit more running in and summer blend diesel.

Did a 110 mile run in it last night, at times not hanging about and it averaged 47mpg which my MK2 vRS TDi DSG with 11k on the clock could barely manage at best.

The only thing is the small fuel tank, less fuel but greater efficiency means similar if not slightly worse range than the older cars with their 55l tanks but its a small price to pay I think.

Well I had an 03 plate 1.9 diesel estate octy with an auto box. The trip computer regularly said 50mpg however using fuelly this translated into around 43mpg. Larger tank but used to get 500+ miles out of it

Now have a mk3 vrs octy estate manual. Trip computer says 50mpg, fuelly says 51mpg. Smaller tank and still getting over 500+ miles out of it. Therefore my new car is def better on fuel than my old car.

Also I haven't even done 6000 miles in the new one yet so expect the mpg to become even better still as the engine continues to bed in.

Not a chance of me getting mpg figures like you guys are getting, car showing 40.4 joys of the autobahns :-)

There is a pretty simple way for you to achieve those figures...it isn't actually illegal to do 70 or 80 mph on the Autobahn. Try it..you will see, mpg figures will recover quite quickly. ;)

I have a similar commute as NevilleStreet, around 35 miles each way, plus average at least one long trip each week, car heading towards 20k and recently noticed the computer hitting 60mpg more often, long term reset about 2 weeks ago and showing 56 at mo, Fuelly also creeping back up recently so looking forward to Shell restocking with the summer fuel and comparing with the early days last June when I was getting mid-high 50s and by then I should be around 25k so hopefully looking forward to a summer of 60+
