Bluetooth & Multiple Phones

Featured Replies

Hi,

When I was sold my Octavia a key question of mine was "Can I have my personal AND work phones connected to bluetooth to receive calls at the SAME time?". The salesman assured that this was possible and not having multiple phones to actually test this with I took this as given with the only exception that it can only handle an active call from one mobile at a time which was fine.

Last night when driving with the wife I found that as she had connected her phone first it was using her phone as the 'active' device and not my work phone. And sods law my work phone rang but wasn't put through the hands free system despite it having bluetooth on and having told it to connect to the car before putting it into the phone box.

I've just checked the handbook for the Amundson and it doesn't mention at all about connecting multiple devices other than that when pairing a new device it will disconnect the other. However, I'm going to run into this same issue when wanting to connect my work phone and personal phone at the same time for journeys during work hours.

Has anyone faced similar issues and know if this possible but I'm not setting things up right?

Any help would be appreciated!

For reference; Car is Elegance with 'Bluetooth+', Personla phone Nexus 5, work phone HTC Sensation (Flashed with CM 10.2) and Wife's is a S4 Mini. All phones work fine independently.

The answer is you CANT have both connected at the same time. It would be good if you could.

However, I now have two phones, and Iphone and a Nokia and it will always connect to the last connected phone first. My iphone is work, and Nokia personal.

There is an option to 'switch' which Bluetooth is connected, and this - although I have only done it from the touchscreen - can be done whislt the phone is still ringing.

I know it is a pain, but this is a Bluetooth thing and not SKoda. Don't think you can reject the car based on this.

Enjoy the driving.

There is thread here with the same question - as above, you can't. http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/303141-multiple-phones-blue-tooth/?hl=%2Bbluetooth#entry3617831

It is however a Skoda thing as there are aftermarket kits out there that can do this.

Technically you can connect 2 phones at once but its one as a music source and the other one for phone calls which isn't exactly what you're after.

Also putting it in the phonebox makes no odds to the bluetooth. I suppose you'll have to decide if you're having a work day or not when you're in the car!

Thanks; sadly most days are work days for me but at least I now know I can easily flip the 'active phone' over semi-quickly as needed (if safe enough when driving of course!) and wasn't wanting to go down the route of an after market kit.

Other than this the car is getting full marks so don't want to swap it; that and I have spent a small fortune on accessories! :)

Thanks for the help guys.

Salesman got confused...I haven't got mine yet but imagine he meant can pair multiple phoned as opposed to connect.

My wife's Ford is supposed to connect the 'favourite' but usual goes with whichever it sees first.

Bit of a ball ache but you could divert personal to work and connect work...

I have exactly this issue.

The only solution that I've been able to think of is using an android phone as one of the phones. Apparently it is possible with certain software to automate certain actions based on a trigger.

My thinking was if it sees the Skoda bluetooth forward all calls to the other phone. If it loses the Skoda bluetooth visibility unforward the calls.

Unfortunately I've been unsuccessful in persuading my work to replace my nokia so haven't got anywhere with it.

I have 2 phones - in my BMW 135i it was great, you could connect 2 phones at the same time - a primary phone which would have calls+contacts sync'd, and at the same time an additional phone which would handle calls, but you wouldn't get the contact name come up (no big deal). I could pair up to 4 phones, and connect any 2 simultaneously, so my other halves phone could connect easily if she was driving.

The VAG system is poor in comparison, my Audi has the same issue of only one handsfree phone connected at a time, and when I looked into it, it is clear VW/Skoda/Seat all use the same underlying system (unsurprisingly).

As suggested above, my solution is to have one phone forward to the other if it rings out, and the other is the one connected to the bluetooth. It's not ideal, as you have to hope the calling party has patience, and you have to listen to the first phone ring out before you can answer it on the second phone, but it does basically work (this if course means you have no voicemail available on the first phone).

I can only hope that this gets updated at some point. I'm not sure if it would be software only or require hardware, it depends on the bluetooth chip being used in the car I guess. But it is certainly not a bluetooth limitation per say as BMW's and just about any laptop can connect to multiple bluetooth devices at the same time.

It is worth noting that on any VAG car including Skoda, you CAN simultaneously connect 2 phones - 1 as handsfree/contacts and 1 for bluetooth audio streaming. This is handy if you have someone in the car that wants to play a song on their phone - or indeed if you have 2 phones and one you want for calls, but the other has your music library on it.

The limitation of one phone handsfree only and dual connect handsfree/audio possibility is documented in the manual BTW.

Having not actually used an android phone I'm not your if such this can be just software based but I do know you can get NFC tags which can be set up to trigger certain behaviours eg divert call, turn on silent etc etc. I was tempted but couldn't bring myself to get a several hundred pound ice cream!

Know exactly what you mean, a colleague uses the 'Tasker' app for when he connects his phone to his dock in his car. I tried it but with limited success though this was due to the interface and understanding how it works the tasks so maybe another try is in order.

Maybe using this with an auto-forward and un-forward command might be a best of both worlds to save hassle doing it on and off all the time.

Might try looking into NFC tags as that would work with the nexus and could attach one to the bottom of the phonebox.

Also, while we're on phones, anyone with an Android and not getting any contact photos through, there's a cheapish app which takes over the bluetooth address book functions and does it properly so the Skoda can download them. Nexus 5 for some reason doesn't.

Just search Play store for android RSAP.

Thanks for help again. :)

You may consider buying a phone with doble SIM card management, there are many good devices with reasonable prices

It is a bit pants, but there's no way around it. Even my £8.50 bluetooth headset could connect to more than one phone at the same time

If you have a smart phone, you should be able to get an app that automates a function if at a certain time or NFC tag / bluetooth or wifi network detected etc to divert call. Dont set it to divert call after ring out, just divert all calls on receipt so effectively one phone calls the other.

I use Automateit from Play store & it does alright. I set my work phone to divert all calls to my personal number at a certain time of day as I generally leave within a 45 min window. When I get a hand me down NFC enabled phone I will purchase some tags as they cost pennies and will work on detection rather than at a set time. One in the car, office & home = 3 tags.

Not a great solution I know,

Trigger is a great app for carrying out an action when an NFC tag is touched, and can be used to configure some basic tasks (good enough for most needs).

If you need some more involved tasks then couple Trigger with Tasker and you have one very capable solution (as schodoodles mentions it can be a bit of a difficult app to get your head around, so i would recommend watching some of the youtube videos http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLjV3HijScGMynGvjJrvNNd5Q9pPy255dL)
