Frozen Yeti in London

Featured Replies

I had an estimate also, disappointingly quite far out thanks to not actually being able to get there and confirm the sizes.

I did calculate on the assumption of 1.2m for the blocks, 0.6m high and 0.3m for the width. It looked almost too small to be 1m wide ! GIven the car is 4m and appeared to be only just over 3 blocks wide !

So this threw the calculation well out so ended up with more like 16000. Bugger.

Would have been very close if not for that ! By the way its 0.917 for the ice, although I saw it rounded to 0.92 also. Kind of fun competition though, I'll have to keep telling myself and persuade that my mkI vRS is still far more fun than a fictional snow creature :)

Yeah, you're right regarding the ice density. I used 0.92 actually (workings out above were re-done on the train in a rush earlier :) )....

original workings out....

width is 3 blocks plus 2x 25 (do not include in main volume calcuation)

each sidewall is 575*200*25 = 2875 litres * 2 = 5750

each endwall is 300*200*25 = 1500 litres * 2 = 3000

roof is therefore 575x350x10 = 2012.5 litres

total 10762.5L ice @ 0.92kg/L = 9901.5kg

+ car @ 1,465 = 11366.5

I think I consciously used 0.92 vs 0.917 as  0.917 is directly below the phase transition. I figured the mean temp of the ice would be a good few degrees below that.

My guess was 11061kg, it would be great to see all the guess's.

... 0.917 is directly below the phase transition. ...

Not a lot of people know that :nerd:

Don't worry about it, it doesn't make you a bad person. :giggle:
