Covent Garden a couple of days ago - now I know it's been cold but has it really been that cold

And if you can guess the total weight of the Yeti and the block of Ice it,s encased in it is yours to keep. The Yeti that is.

Tony

I wondering how they stop the ice from melting?

I mean, it's not that cold at present. Above zero degrees. So it should be melting quite quickly.

Perhaps they are not actually ice blocks!

PS: nice pictures.

PPS: is that your kid in the third pic? How tall are they? (Seeks clues to help judge size of blocks).

I think they are the promotional shots that SUK have also put on Facebook.

Ah! Hadn't seen those ones, only daylight ones.

I've put my guess in :)

Mine will be way out - I was guesstimating from much smaller photos which didn't show the sides properly. I think SWMBO will be entering with a revised guess, and maybe the kids too...

I think every one here already knew the Skoda Yeti was a cool vehicle and now more poeple have become aware.

You don't really have to guess. It's pretty easily measurable and calculable using images from across the web.

Yes. I make it 29765...

Good luck with that :)

Sorry chaps, busy day today trying to wrap everything up before a couple of days off with the clan.

KB, not my little'un, as Richard mentioned promotional shots.

I've been sent a time lapse video as well that looks pretty good but it's about 50 Mb, any way of getting it on here, unless it's on the Facetwit wall already?

Good job I found this, was about to post it up, was in Covent Garden last week and took this shot:

Appeared to be quite a lot of attention around it.

I see Elaine Mendes won The New Yeti with a good guess of 11,185kg which was spot on

Some are calling it a fix that it was spot on

I say good luck to her

Bumholes. I guessed 16,485.

Well done to Elaine. Quite likely someone would get it spot on really with an educated guess.

Combined weight was 11185 Kgs

Ice weight was 9720 Kgs

Yeti weight was 1465 Kgs        HTH

Tony

Oh well. I wasn't far out.

Well done Elaine

Well I was very close with my guess, but not close enough 11061kg :-(

Bugger, I was only a few hundred out.

So I was within 0.7% of the official right answer. Here's how….

By looking at Skoda Media's twitter feed it was trivial to establish the supplier of the ice blocks and from there the dimension of the ice blocks was easy to confirm to be the standard 100x50x25cm type used for ice carving.

Armed with that information I obtained all the high resolution pictures I could from flickr, twitter, Facebook, google image search etc. It was relatively easy to determine the number of blocks and part blocks used on each dimension, yielding the following...

side walls: 575cm x 25cm x 200cm  = 2875L x2 = 5750L

end walls: 300cm x 25cm x 200cm = 1500L x2 = 3000L

roof: 350cm x 575cm x 10cm = 2012.5L x1 = 2012.5L

total of 10762.5L ice

@ 0.91kg/L = 9793.9kg ice

+ 1465kg for car = total weight of 11258.9kg

73.9kg over. I said to colleagues at work I was confident I'd be within 1%. I should have allowed some room for erosion of the blocks in transit and unpacking. The chances of getting it bang on like she apparently did are tiny though.

I would be intrigued to see the distribution of the entries to see how many people actually attempted estimate it properly rather than just guessing.

Nick - you've got too much time on your hands

Oh I got the thickness of the roof of 10cm using several high res photos and counting ratios of pixels vs the adjacent wall blocks (which I knew were 50cm high).

Oh dear!!

Just as well I had ordered a new one, coz I was way out with my guess. I did some calculations but no where near as detailed as Nick P.

Well done all who entered, and well done to the winner, another happy Yeti owner.
