Do it once, until they change the mot to include a test for the dpf performance and then buy a new one or scrap the car Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk

Yes, they're coming for direct injected petrol engines as there is a particulate limit for them, like for diesels.

So if you want a town car, its got to be indirect injection. FFS.

I suppose though it will very many years for a petrol particulate filter to clog and need replacement as the engines themselves will be producing far less particulate matter than a diesel engine?

Or manufacturers will just make petrol versions smaller to "save weight".. or so they clog up in the same time so we still need to fork out for a new one! ;)

It's been doing funny things where it does a regen at 17%/23%, no light or re-gen above 40%, yesterday doing about 10 re-gens before the light came on ?

I meant when the light came on this time.

Im getting a G450 tomorrow from Skoda in Aberdeen as I think that's most likely, it's only done 20k odd miles since installation and has been cleaned out 6 weeks ago and seems to do what it wants when it wants !!

I have been reading though this thread today and I must admit its beginning to worry me a little I have only just got my skoda and I am in the process of getting the parts together to do a service on the auto box and engine.i then come across this thread and thought what the hell have I got my self into. the problems this guy is having with this dpf thing and the £ that seem to be getting quoted is getting frightening to say the least I got my self an octavia cos I always thought they where we'll built reliable vehicles, or am I just reading and hearing about the extreams and not the norm cheers kev.

PD engines, like the chap above has, were never designed to have DPFs so they were quite problematic. The newer CR engines are better. Unless your 2005 TDI is a VRS or 4x4, it won't have a DPF.

Did an adaption of the G450 , carried out a forced re-gen , thrash along the dueller for 20-30 miles all lights eventually out !! % was at 12 and falling as the laptop battery failed so defo going for the sensor. Happy days are with us again.......for now !!

. Thanks for your reply my car is the 2005 140 bhp so good news if that's the case cheers kev.

G450 bought from Skoda Aberdeen , rather disappointed what £61.18 gets you !! Surprised at the easy access location as well !! Will be changing today , watch this space !!

So !! Went to remove sensor and found that the smaller of the 2 pipes that hoses attach to had snapped clean off. So this is probably the cause of the issues !! Swapped over and ran a regen and the % figure dropped like a stone so hopefully jobs a good un !!

Result! (again :D )

Nice one glad things worked out for you I think a lot of people would give up by now you deserve a good result just for your perseverance alone lol atb kev.

SO !! Changed the sensor on the Saturday, light back on on the Thursday, 4th gear blah blah......Light out again, Now the following wednesday light on again !! So 4th gear blah blah.....cleared very quickly, I'm going to watch the mileage, date and time to clear very carefully over the coming weeks. Could anything else be causing this ? As previously said no limp or fault codes just the DPF light !!

So here is the initial figures of mean time between DPF Lights:

1.15-10-14 - On @ 136452 - Out at 136458 (6 mile Re-Gen)

2.21-10-14 - On @ 136576 - Out at 136586 (10 mile Re-Gen)

Total - 6 Days and 118 Miles of DPF issue free driving !!

Re-Gens carried out in 4th on Dual Carriageway as soon as light illuminates (give or take 10 mins/5 miles).

Hi. I had a VW Golf Gt 170 and I had the same problems with the DPF aswell. Ended up removing the DPF which did solve the problem initially but then caused damage to the turbo because they stuck a generic map on the car!! So ended up losing alot of money and sold the car at snip of the price!! Was a complete nightmare of a car due to the DPF issues. Would suggest if you get a DPF removal done professionally would be your best option.
