Mitsumi option questions

Featured Replies

I'm not familiar with the Skoda audio concept(not an owner yet) so bear with me....

1. What does the Mitsumi option achieve?

2. I have a 3rd gen ipod Touch - my only requirement is to play music via the cars audio system. No need for video.

3. Nice to have touch screen control of the ipod but not essential.

4. In this scenario do I really need Mitsumi?

5. Side issue - what does the "Bluetooth+ voice control" option listed in the price book achieve?

Basically mitsumi gives you full control of the iPod from the cars infotainment unit, you can't use the iPods touch screen but you don't need to as can do everything from the cars touch screen. I use my 3rd gen Touch with it and it's great, make sure you use the cable with the red collar and you get album are on the cars screen too and the option of playing movies.

Bluetooth+ is nothing to do with Bluetooth, it just boosts your mobile phones signal. Voice control is standard across the range in the UK.

Unless you are absolutely desperate to connect an Apple device hardwired to the car I would suggest not bothering with Mitsumi. Its basically MDI that ive had on a couple of cars before and its not all that much cop to be fair, device compatibility can be flaky for starters.

Depending on how old your iTunes music is the car can read unprotected mp4's from SD card; I just pull all my iTunes purchased music down to SD and play it from the car that way. Also if you are using a BT Apple device you can stream your music to the car and still control tracks and display music information; you just dont get the album art etc.

I suppose the other alternative is to buy a cheap reasonable size USB memory stick or portable HDD and run your music from there, pretty sure the car will run mp4's via USB too.

I've got a latest gen iPod and AFAIK, you can't officially get a Lightning connector for Mitsumi at the moment, so I'm going to stick with either a USB drive or stream via Bluetooth - as I do at the moment on my Fabia.

Yes you can, its been available since before Christmas.

Bugger - might change my order then...

I have a deep distrust of digital music but it is convenient for the car - I was wondering about simply connecting via bluetooth, but have had bad experiences in the past (juddering playback) plus I don't think the quality is as good as a hard wired connection.

Another option to use the 3.5mm audio socket?

The two best solutions are ipod with mitsumi or using the standard SD slot.  I like my ipod so went with Mitsumi and haven't regretted it one bit.

Sounds good - I presume it will also charge the iPod? If so then a definite benefit

Yes

I shall qualify this first - I am a massive Spotify fan and iphone user - and Skoda's may be different (I'm assuming it's VAG so the same) but nevertheless, I've got MDI in my current Passat sport (came on the car, I'd have specced it at the time but wouldn't again) and to be honest although I do keep my old ipod connected to it, it's a total PITA. Frequently disconnects itself and goes back to the first song alphabetically speaking, and particularly since my ipod is a full, old 120Gb one, is desperate to scroll through, search on (in fact there's no search, it's scroll and find). It's a first world / middle class problem admittedly but it upsets me when I arrive at the car park for work and shuffle has just put a great song on - I think 'that'll be lovely when I get back 9 hours later' and I start the car only to find 'Boards of Canada - Disengage - Track A' AGAIN.....

When my vrs arrives I won't miss the feature assuming the CD slot plays digital files and I'll probably stick an SD card in with just the stuff I want to hear...

You don't mention whether you are going to be ordering a Skoda, so I don't know what spec you would be going for.

If you are considering ordering the Columbus sat nav you don't need to specify the Mitsumi connection.

It states in the brochure.

For the connection of Apple devices, the optional ‘Mitsumi’ Apple device connection must be ordered or the Columbus satellite navigation system.

I had the MDI in my mkII vRS and have the mitsumi in my new one and haven't experienced any of the issues you've mentioned.
