Asymmetric 2s or Rainsport 3s?

Featured Replies

I've just checked my rear tyres and I need some very soon. I would normally buy Rainsport 2s (had 2 pairs) but they are no longer produced. So the obvious choice would be the Rainsport 3s, however since they are new there are not many reviews for them.  The alternative are the Goodyear Assymetric 2s which seam to do very will in tyre tests. http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Goodyear/Eagle-F1-Asymmetric-2.htm

Looking at Camskil, Assy 2s are currently £80 each and Uniroyals are £61-64 (both excluding P&P and fitting). So is it worth spending the extra on the proven Goodyears or trying these Uniroyals? I have had experience with Goodyears summers (GSD3s) before and they were great in the wet, but didn't like the cold one bit, (the opposite to GW-3s which are great).

I've had RS3 all round on my Fabia for the last 3000 miles of mixed motorway, A-road and B-road driving in the terrible rain we have had over the past few months.

I can report that I have found them to be faultless in the wet and equally good in the dry. Wet braking feels very safe as does wet cornering and performance through standing water is brilliant.

My previous tyre were Hankook Ventus all round and the RS3 are far better in my opinion.

I can't comment on the RS3s as I have had Assymetric 2s since they were released. They're a great all-rounder, and coped incredibly well with the rain of the past few months. They are like limpets when it's dry and it takes a lot of welly for them to break traction when there has been no rain. They are also quiet which is an important consideration. I will replace mine with the same again - can't give a better recommendation than that!

Other half just put rain sport 3s on his alfa and he loves them. Very impressed with them in both wet and dry

Goodyear's all the way, had them before & would have no hesitation on buying them again as they're so good, quiet & grip like the car's on rails.

Worth the extra money IMHO.

Im in a debate between these two tyres aswell, im struggling to find 205/40/17 in the assy2s.

Yeah I thought about putting 215s on but im only changing the front ideally wanted to keep them the same, hence opting for rs3 as I'v had rs2 in the past and loved them

Tonight I've ordered a pair of tyres from Camskill. Even when ordering I was still in two minds! :wall:  I've decided, whichever one I order, I'll order the other, when I they wear out (If I still have the car, by then)

All will be reviled next week when they arrive.

Good one Jim

The delivery time and service from Camskill is second to none

Yep. I've used them many times for both winter and summer tyres and can't fault their service. So hopefully they will come on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Which ones did you end up ordering?

I thought I'd put you all out of suspense. The tyres arrived yesterday afternoon and I've had them fitted today.

I decided to go for these as I've had no problems with the older design, plus this month have been spending quite a lot on the car, (Brakes, bushes, and full service, inc, cambelt). They were £128 delivered from Camskill. I wanted the Extra load ones, but at the time of ordering there was no stock. I hope I will like them as much as the old ones.

Iv just ordered myself a set of these aswell as the assy2 are a nightmare to find in my size

I've just had a strange thought about when I next change tyres.

I will probably replace my Goodyear winter tyres with Continentals, and then replace these Uniroyal (owned by Continental) summer tyres with Goodyears. It will all depend on how both these pairs last.

71 dB... ouch, should be pretty loud.

It's the same as the Rainsport 2's. The Asymmetrics are very slightly quieter at 70 dB.

One thing i noticed tread on one wheel seems to run backwards, but they are fitted correctly triple checked them.

Yep, does look odd when fitted

May be they should make one's for the near side and one for the off side

This is what you get from an Asymmetric tyre, which is the current trend for modern summer tyres.

You mean an asymmetric tyre that is also directional. It is very rare, but there have been some made in the past. If you can remember this thread, I found some: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/243586-my-parada-2s/?p=2866557.  You have to specify if it's a left handed tyre or a right handed tyre you want when buying

should have got some vredestein ultrac sessantas
