I'm a soon to be new Superb owner

Featured Replies

Hi, as the title says.  I've signed up now in anticipation of getting a new Superb to become part of this community.  Hopefully I will be able to help in the future and by the looks of things won't find it hard to find help here myself.  I am from South Wales, and I am an avid car fan, however never really owning anything I would call good, until now.

My beautiful wife has given me £12k to play with, and after a few weeks of car hunting I have wittled it down to a Skoda Superb Elegance CR 170 bhp.  I've gone around a few Skoda dealers now to look for 'The One'  but not found it yet.  I have to say it is an absolutely beautiful car to sit in and quite frankly i've fallen in love with it already, and I havn't even gone for a test drive yet!!

I am going for a test drive tomorrow in this. So will be my first experience of the car in action (and potentially the best car i've ever driven, by far).

I feel the price of the car isn't quite right given the age and the mileage and I am going to try to drop the price as much as I can.

But I just have a few questions.

Am I right in thinking that because tomorrow is new plate day that this car will lose a considerable amout of it's value?

Also, should it not have received a cambelt change by now, given the year of the car?

Anything else in general I can use to make the dealer drop his price further?

And also is there anything else I should be looking out for?  I'm taking a friend with me who used to be a mechanic some years ago, and can check some of the mechanical things, but when it comes to technology in these things both me and him are clueless!

I've never had this much money to play with before for a vehicle so as you can expect I am a tad bit nervous, and I want this car to be nigh on perfect.

I will say that I am looking forward to getting this car very much, and also hopefully to be a part of this community.

Many thanks!

Lee.

Welcome Lee. Check value on Parker's or similar. Not excessive miles and looks good. Just make sure your love for the car does not show itself to the salesmen. Point out any issues (find something, anything) Play hard with him and see what his 'walk away' price is, you can always walk back.

Print some other examples of that are cheaper or better spec and put under his nose and tell him/her you have arranged test drives with them, unless given a price that makes you sign!!

Good luck and enjoy!

Thanks Mark.  Some sound advice there.  I have contemplated pulling a load of 'better prices' up on my phone ready for the onslaught when I go down there tomorrow afternoon, including a massively underpriced one from a fellow dealership.

I'm just having a look at that parkers now, wish I had found this sooner, thanks dude!

And as for 'walk away' price... call me dumb... but can you explain that to me a little bit? lol  not 100% sure how that works.

Walk away price is the price he will let you walk away as you have hit him low. Fine balance to find but worth a try even if you get up off your seat saying the price is a little too rich for you... All part of the fun!

Right okay, i'm well prepared to walk away if i dont get the right price.  Plenty more fish in the sea!

Thanks again for the information Mark, that parkers referral is gonna be invaluable.

are you part exchanging a car? If so hit them with im not interested in what my cars worth or the price of the car im looking at is, whats the balance to change figure. I always find it changes the way the sales person deals with me ans shows that im not interested in playing games.

Hi and welcome aboard.

Bought it. Tbh I was well impressed with it and would have paid the asking price for it if he didn't budge. But managed to knock a few hundred off the price. Wasn't able to part ex really as my old car is a piece of junk... They would have only given me 300 quid for it lol Cam belt has been changed as well, so now I am the proud owner of a Skoda Superb, I pick it up next Saturday! :D Thanks to all for the advice.

Nice one. Next Saturday can't come quick enough!!

Ohh by the way chan,  it's a spitting image of your girl "Audrey". Just found your thread :p  It has the same colour and interior, maybe they're long lost twin sisters?!

I'll have pics soonTM

I know aye, feel like a kid with a new toy!

That's all i've been doing since I got home is to see what I can do for her when she gets home.

So far, Dr Leather and Rain X are on the cards, and also looking into a vcds cable.  Another thing I need to sort out ASAP is the Fuel filter housing, it's identical to the one in your picture... just a small bit of rust on it.

A LOT of good information on your Audrey thread, kept me busy all afternoon!

So you're a year on from your purchase, how do you feel with it?  All is good?  How many miles have you done?  Any tips or advice? :)

Cheers Lee!

Every bit on info on Audrey s thread all from forum members!

This is truly a very friendly forum with plenty of banter too :-)

I think I done the average mileage abt 8-10k.

As u had read my thread,

we had ups and downs,

Joys and tears,

and at one point nearly defected to the other side (Audi).

I am still learning, but am sure members here will add their years of experience here too.

Had a look at your link.

Nice!

Sadly Audrey s recently strange behaviour has disappeared.

Fraid they not twins too.

Audrey 2010, yours 2009 :-(

Have u got a name for her yet?

Your car is also slightly differently cosmetically.

Like my has the SILVER headlamp washers - yours is color coded.

U got spare wheel?

Brolly in rear passenger door?

Columbus satnav with HDD?

Latest satnav maps / software?

Wheel nut dust caps?

Full Skoda service?

Check on MOTINFO.gov.UK for any not advisories?

I am sorry I came late to reply.

Now that u have bought the car.

Hopefully u can check these stuff before u pickup Sat?

Did u also ensure it cams with

Full tank of fuel

12months tax

12month not

Floor mats

Upgrades:

Remap?

Rear window shades

New logo badges

Boot spoiler

Replace roof aerial with just shark fin

New Bluetooth module to work with iPhone etc

Last thing: check every single button, lever, electrical item works

and body work / internal is good condition too.

PS: yes, deffo like my year of ownership :-)

Pps: only thing I would have liked was the V6 4x4 version :-)

Enjoy and keep us posted!

Still thinking of a name, but Angelina has come to mind because of her lovely curvs and big red lips!

And yes, different years, maybe an older sister perhaps?

I have checked most of the above, apart from the dust caps, government mot check (which I can't do without the V5... which I havn't got yet) and the brolly (which I completely forgot to check).

Everything else I believe is sound, I checked every knob and switch that I could.  I couldn't tell you what version of satnav it is tho, but I doubt I will have many problems being able to upgrade it.. we'll see.

Mot and tax, check full service history, check.  And as for upgrades I think the only thing I will be looking into is the mats and shark fin.  Other than that I think the car is perfect.

Comes with a 1 year Skoda warranty too so I can't complain too much.

Just need to get it home now! :D

7E8E69BC-D7FE-46BD-9C3C-B36D7D24E2C3-151

U can also use the MOT number to check:

272778EA-0E35-4A97-9044-A798DE1DED1B-151

as for maps:

If u can search by Postcode then that is newer.

I think u press and hold SETUP for 5secs to show map/software version iirc

Skoda genuine mats are nice with the Superb logo on.

But some say they are a bit thin.

Becareful wot u wish for.

Could be a small fortune before u know it!

Lol

That's exactly what I was thinking of :D

I don't have any of the docs yet, so I don't even know what that number is.  It's all good, i'll check in the garage when it's due to be picked up. :)

I know they are dealer and do 1million checks and offer 12month warranty.

But my experience show better to get everything checked and resolved to the last T before pickup,

than having to go back to them afterwards and slight mistrust who to blame.

Sorry not to alarm u.

But just my 2 pennies worth ...

  • Author

Not alarmed at all, I never knew about the service you explained.

But now I do, and before taking the car off their hands I will check this.  Everything else though has been checked, and I am happy with my purchase. :)

You've been a great help so far, thank you.
