thinking of selling L&K - does it have a DPF?

Featured Replies

hi

driving style now is plenty of short journeys, sometimes the engine hasnt warmed up before i switch off.  looking at getting a petrol engine (honda civic) instead before i do damage to the engine, which im told could run into £1000s to repair.

ive been advised if my car doesnt have a DPF then im fine.  can anyone confirm this, and also, how do i find out if my car has one?  its a 57 laurin and klement.

thanks

Only CR engines from 2008 have a DPF.

As far as I know.

and PD Engines, the 170 bhp ones ( 2007 Vrs )

Also the PD140 Scouts not the normal PD140's.

Your car definitely does not have a DPF.

great stuff thanks. so there should be no concerns with short journey driving then? nothing else to bork the engine?

cheers

Lots of short journeys are never much good for an engine.  Combustion by products can build up in the oil. A litre of fuel will produce 15 litres of water for example, and will combine with other nasties to produce corrosive acids. Short runs don't heat up the oil sufficiently to evaporate that away.

Changing the oil more often and going for a swift one as often as possible will help.

DERV fuel does have a bit of lubricity unlike petrol.  It has much less tendency to "bore wash" your engine, ie rinse off the lube oil from your cylinders, so is likely to be better than petrol in that respect.

thanks.  good to know i dont have the DPF to worry about then, and are you saying id actually be better off with a diesel than petrol?  i do actually do a couple of 20 mile journeys each week, so would you say a quick high revs blast every now and then will see me ok with this particular engine?

thanks a lot

You'll be abfab if the usual fixed servicing is applied.

I'd only be concerned if you drove like a granny and pootle about town.

Stand on the loud pedal and enjoy your L&K :-)
