Sport, eco, normal modes in MkIII vRS compared to MkII vRS?

Featured Replies

I've trawled previous threads and despite a lot of discussion about the various modes - eco, normal and sport I can't find much comparing the modes in the MkIII vRS with the MkII vRS.

Obviously on the MkII there is no mode selection so...

Is MkII permanently in something like the MkIII sport mode or is the MkII stuck in something more average between the three available modes of the MkIII?

Are MkIII eco and normal mode less 'sporty' than MkII?

Is MkIII sport mode similar in 'sportiness' to the MkII or is the MkIII 'sport' mode more 'sporty' than the MkII?

I suppose what I'm asking is whether I will notice my new vRS as being more 'sporty' than my MkII whatever mode I put it in?

I did test drive new vRS but didn't really have long enough with it to properly test it and it was too long ago now to properly remember anyway.

I have a new vRS TDI DSG Hatch on order - but no idea when to expect it - probably some time between May and August. Since the order was only placed 7 weeks ago I clearly can't expect any definite news about a delivery date at this stage!!  :-(

I had my mkII for 2 years before going to the mkIII and I'd say the mkII is equivalent to the mkIII in Normal, Eco is pointless maybe cos mine is a manual but I've been unable to better consumption in Eco than any other mode. The one time I found in useful is in a freak hail shower a few weeks back where the roads were covered, Eco makes the throttle less sensitive so reduced wheel spin.

Eco with the DSG free wheels down hills or when you are going faster enough and lift off the throttle.  The downside is that sometimes it doesn't drop back into gear.  A recent run just trying out eco and taking it easy returned over 58 mpg. The I turned on sport and had some fun........

As neily said the mk2 id say is normal but with response of the sport...ish. My mk2 was manual and mk3 is dsg so hard to give a good comparison
