Standard VRS and Blackline?

Featured Replies

As a new member I'm not sure what the differnce is, so please enlighten me.

Cheers

A Backline is a Standard Vrs with a few Extras thrown in for the Same Price

Don't know what all the Extras are though,

Bit of a special Edition

Blackline got black alloys, Amundsen sat nav with DAB, leather seats and rear parking sensors...

"ŠKODA has also announced details of a new limited-edition version of its performance flagship Octavia vRS family car, featuring a host of additional equipment at no extra cost.

Badged the Octavia vRS Blackline, the new model is on sale now in both hatch and estate body styles. Featuring stunning 18-inch black alloy wheels, the car boasts a standard specification list that includes acoustic rear parking sensors, Amundsen satellite navigation system, DAB radio and vRS leather upholstery.

In total, this represents more than £1,900 of extras.

The Octavia vRS Blackline comes with ŠKODA’s acclaimed 2.0-litre TDI CR 170PS DPF engine and customers have the choice of either six-speed manual or six-speed DSG automatic transmissions. Three vibrant exterior colours are also available: Candy White, Black Magic pearl effect or Race Blue metallic.

Prices range from £21,260 to £23,495 OTR depending on which body style and gearbox is selected. In addition ŠKODA’s legendary pay no VAT offer still applies.

To make the deal even sweeter, the Octavia vRS Blackline offer also includes three years of free servicing for customers who wish to take advantage of ŠKODA Finance’s low rate of just 7.9% APR representative with a £500 deposit contribution paid for by the manufacturer.

500 of these cars are now available nationwide to order from ŠKODA retailers."

When Skoda was winding down the Mk2 they threw all the surplus bits into a big pot and decided that they could entice a few more people into buying a car that was about to be superseded.

The result was the Blackline.

Actually it was a bit of a bargain for some....

Not such a bargain now. I sold my Jan 13 62 plate estate DSG, admittedly in as-new condition with 11.5k miles on the clock to my dealer as a part ex and was up last time I looked at £5 under 19k. I only paid a few quid over £20k for it brand new.

cracking car though, the wheels make it stand out from the norm, the extra kit is nice and the nav unit was v good, DAB radio included and factory bluetooth can be enabled with coding a an OEM mic and loom install thats v easy to do.

So are the wheels on the Blackline just standard wheels painted black?

Standard vRS 18" Neptunes but painted Black.

Mines awesome!

Mine is a standard Candy Whte vRS estate, but with the Blackline Wheels. There are a few about, so the suggestion that they threw a few extras in is almost certainly correct. I am fairly certain  that a few of the Skoda sales reps had them, as when I was looking for a new one I could only find second hand ones all with low mileage mostly being driven by reps.

Black wheels was an option and not isolated to the Blackline. Like others I love my Blackline too. I have footwell lights, bluetooth enabled and MDI all done by myself.

Well my aim racing blue Blackline hatchback. No older than 5 years old and no higher than 60,000 miles. Take into account that I'm not looking to purchase until late next year, maybe 2016.

I am looking at diesel vRS as cannot find a blackline in budget. May then pay a few hundred for refurbished wheels in black instead.

So are the wheels on the Blackline just standard wheels painted black?

Yes Black 18" Neptunes were a factory option on the vRS towards the end of its life. Some people dont like them but I prefer them to the silver ones as never really thought they were the best looking alloy in the world; black suits the design a bit better IMO.

One of the key selling points of the Blackline was it was as far as I am aware the only UK version of the MK2 vRS to have factory DAB radio fitted, no other vRS's have this.

To be honest I'm not too botherd about the DAB, sat nav or the leather. I have a one year old so the leather may take some punishment. I'm after the black alloys really.

So get a normal model and then refurb the alloys for circa £300 - thread I started recently asked this exact question and feedback was that for £300 the wheel specialist would make a better job than OEM :-)

Are they gloss or matt black?

Gloss.

  • 3 weeks later...

Got a quote from TWS and they actually want £420 to refurb 5x OEM alloys which is a lot more than I had been told on here previously. Seems a bit expensive IMO.

Sounds about right. It was a couple of years ago but these were my quotes:

So based on 5 wheels without the discount would have come to £420 and bearing in mind this was only for "Up to 17" wheels" and was for loose wheels!

I would do a bit of searching and see if you can find a discount code (I think I used "GTI6" but don't know if this would still work).  Alternatively I went to a local independent for my summer wheels and only paid £220 for the same service as above.

Find a local specialist.

I pay £75 / wheel inc VAT for powder coating including tyre removal, refit, balancing etc.

And this is top end of the local alloy refurbers around my way.

When i picked mine up first thing a mate said was you need black alloys on that before i'd even heard of a blackline (Black leather and candy white), the wheels are not 100% so thinking of refurbing them locally in a matt Titanium (same as the TT) not a big fan of gloss black.

Did the blackline have a black grill and inserts too?

Having seen a few Blacklines around I am amazed anyone wants black wheels, especially at this time of year unless it's parked it looks like its on 18" black steelies when moving !

Very big steel wheels. I have black wheels and wouldn't have bought an octavia without them.

it's easy enough to change standard silver alloys to black, especially if the wheel are in good condition.

the wheels have already been powder coated, so just sand down with some fine wet & dry then a good clean with sugar soap, mask up and spray with black primer, then the black gloss, and if you want them glossier, use a lacquer.

after 2 weeks or so you can use some g3 rubbing compound to smooth the paint down and give a finish like the pro's get.

it helps if you have a second set of wheels, like winter steelies etc, if not you really have to use your spare wheel and do one wheel at a time.

it's all a bit time consuming obviously, but it'll save you a few bob

As it happens I've had a new quote from TWS of £360 which is much better. Seriously contemplating it but have only just got the car and not sure I should do it straight away! Lol.

Thats steep.  :wonder:

£240 to refurb all 4 of my 18" Zeniths at TWS earlier this year. Pretty much any finish I wanted, too.
