Jeep Renegade

Hi Lee

My 2009 version was brilliant with the upped power and torque (156kw/470nm) and would startle when asked to overtake with a sense of a very tight and direct torque converter.....no slushyness at all....almost industrial strength feel........like an old S Class I once drove.

  • I don't think at my age I can be called a chick. I look more like a ruddy ostrich Anyhoo

If you can't feel them it doesn't really matter.

On the ZF8HP you may get a 8th to 7th downshift but that maybe only a couple of hundred rpm and the box is so smooth you don't even notice.

The problem I noticed on the CRV with the ZF9HP I had for the weekend was it tended to hold 9th far too long then go for 7th or even 6th so you get a lurch. Should be easily sorted with software and these are the 1st gen models.

Prior to the 308's Aisin box we had a Honda Jazz 5spd auto which drove me mad with its indecision and hunting.

Oops

We've stolen the thread....!

You should have tried one before f37. :)

Slightly offtopic, would be interesting to drive one of the newer automatic transmission's, didn't realise they were doing 9 speed boxes now. I do prefer manuals but I quite like the old 5 speed GM transmission in my car.

They drive more like a dsg once moving. They spend most of the time with the torque converter locked up so they are direct drive. The ZF8HP for example can lock the torque converter out from 1200rpm in 1st, opens for the 1st to 2nd change then can remain locked up from 1200rpm in 2nd through to 8th.

The very small change between ratios make for very smooth and quick changes and having a torque converter means they are very smooth at low speed and when manouvering.

Drives lovely with the Petrol Engine Renegade which is what you want really.

Many leave the technical details to the Engineers, and how they perform is what matters.

Then you have the beauty now of a petrol that does as required with decent economy and no need to put up with the clatter of a diesel,

no matter how much better they are these days, they are still noisy.

There are going to be lots of Volkswagen Group deals and offers and trying to get customers leasing cars.

Buyers /Leasers market really for a year or more to come.

Lets hope that the Dealers are doing PDI's and Servicing properly and not giving too much time over to doing the Fix this year.

They would have more time if less was spent on Warranty Work.

Improved Production & Factory Quality Control would assist in reducing the Warranty work required.

Sir Arnolds establishments are advertising.

Many will avoid Arnold Clark or all the other Dealerships that are part of the group,

but in Scotland that is increasingly impossible.

So all you are doing is leasing a car from the biggest Privately owned Motor Group in Europe.

(the one that has the greatest purchasing power possibly.)

Certainly check your rings and watch after shaking hands over a deal, and never darken their door to buy a 'used car',

unless they are taking in some crap Trade In you have obviously.

Yep, Ling is bat**** crazy.

Living in Scotland I know what Arnold is like, unfortunately avoiding him does restrict choices. I would and have used them for car hire but just hear so much bad about them (well founded too) that out of principle I will avoid them for purchases and servicing.

Yip, don't ask Arnold.

A work colleague has just ordered a Longitude model. He was very impressed with it on his 24hr test drive.

He brought it into work and first impressions of it were it was a good vehicle.

We shall see!

I know I'm mad, but I love Jeeps. Ever since owning a 1997 Grand Cherokee, the Tonka Toy qualities have stuck with me.

This looks awesome, and in 'Trailhawk' spec would absolutely chin a Yeti on the rough stuff.

Jeep Renegade

Every time I see one on the road, I wish I had a missile launcher.

They are butt ugly, especially those rear lights, many are drive by people who can't drive for toffee and the only thing worse I have seen is one towing a caravan.

They are pig ugly.

You do not see that when driving them though, that is  unless looking at another one or your reflection in shop windows.

Actually they drive rather well if you have the right engine and transmission.

Access and seating position will suit many, and bargains can be had.

Lease deals are quite good but people do buy them as keepers.

You probably don't see too many around Knightsbridge I guess...........better at wallowing in mud.

I actually like the look of them, and particularly the back lights! Very similar in size & shape to the Yeti, and a better choice of colours!

^^^

Not a Renegade though so just carry on Jeep, suited to Knightsbridge.

Ryeman,

Actually the Renegade is very much a city car, easy to park, available in 2 WD etc.

They suit the same people that might have bought a Yeti but will not buy or lease a Skoda.
