Skoda has the last laugh

Featured Replies

Skoda just came top, out of all the world's car manufacturers, in the Which? survey of some 64,000 car owners. For customer satisfaction, for build quality and after-sales service, Skoda drubbed Honda and Toyota. It even beat out of sight the Audi brand, which is its stablemate in the VW group and which is meant to stand for the highest quality.

Not only are Skodas the best-built European cars and the best value for money but they are also top-notch to drive. The Octavia vRS is the most satisfying high performance saloon or estate you can buy for less than £35,000. The Yeti is the best of all "soft" off-roaders or urban 4x4s; and the new Superb estate is, for my money, the car of the year.

Did you notice the date on that article - 2010 - it's a little old so will be referring to the Mk II vRS.

Think it still applies though for the mk3. Skoda still laughing.

How can it apply for the mkIII?

Telegraph date is Thursday 06 March 2014. The Octavia vRS is the most satisfying high performance saloon or estate you can buy for less than £35,000. I would agree with that now. Aren't you happy with your MK3 VRS? I think the most people on this forum would agree that the MK3 is an improvement on the MK2 - that's all I meant.

But that article is 4 years old so isn't relevant to the current cars, rival models or their owners........... Plus the Octavia isn't available in a saloon so shows how much they know.......

People tend to call the hatch a saloon just because it kinda looks like one.

If they keep losing orders from ineptitude and lack of communication as currently on vRS orders, I don't think they will be laughing for long

How many orders have they lost?

No idea, but if you think there are several people on here already cancelled, several (like me) seriously considering it, and one post I read the dealer told the guy that they themselves had lost 30 orders.

When you think even though this is one of, if not the, biggest forum for Skoda, us posting here are still a minority of owners/potential owners, you have to wonder.

I'm sure cancelling orders happens with a lot of manufacturers - two work colleagues cancelled MB A class orders last year due to ever-increasing lead times (3 months, then 6, then 9...maybe; they arrived in just under 10 months for those who did wait).

Dare I say they (Skoda in this case) won't be too worried - still plenty of advance orders in the pipeline and there will be someone else through the door shortly who will probably like the idea of a "cancellation slot".  "3 months wait instead of the current 4?  Win!"..

It's all about expectations. If you fly via Easyjet and get a good price, the flight being roughly on time, and service is okay you will give them full marks. If you take another 1st Class flight using Emirates, price being high, flight on time, and service good, you may only mark them as average because you get what you expected.

I am very happy with my VRS. I appreciate that it is not a top German Brand so my expectations are lower. As such I will rate it highly if it does not let me down, and will not rate it so badly if it does.

edit: I have only owned my Skoda for 2 days, but so far my dealings with the Dealer have been very pleasant. It has been my best new-car buying experience. This includes past experiences with Ford, VW, Subaru, Fiat, Audi, Renault & BMW Dealerships, my local Ford Dealer being by far the worst of the bunch.
