Cost of a clutch replacement for a Felicia?

Featured Replies

Just been towed home having pulled out onto a roundabout, found a lot of play suddenly appeared in the gear stick. The AA chap (7mins from call to appearance and then 3 mins later another van turned up too   :) ) said that one of the bolts on the bottom of the linkage had snapped and in my attempt to get it off the roundabout I had cooked the flywheel sensor and possibly killed the clutch, New sensor is the easy bit, bolt wont be too much of a problem but if the clutch is dead that's beyond me.

Has  anyone had a clutch replaced on one recently? What was the price?, if your in Maidstone thats even better. I can see the kit is about £50 but whats the labour charge for a replacement?

Cheers, Ben

£200 seems to be the round about price these days, all in including the dreaded VAT

the clutch kit itself ( pressure plate, friction disc & release bearing) varies in price a bit from one supplier to another, but I'd expect to pay between £50 and £80 for the kit, the rest is labour, probably a 3 hour job if going by the book time which is what most garages will do. So I decent independent garage will be about £200 as stated above. If the driveshaft are removed ( not strictly necessary but it makes it easier) then add 2.5 litres of gearbox oil on top too.

That's numbers in the region that I was hoping for, will ring a couple of places in the morning to confirm. Thanks for the input guys.

To be fair, basic tools, maybe a mate to help you lift the box back, and a haynes and it's not that hard.

Given the amount of free time I will have over the next month and that I only have one trolley jack, I'm not really looking at doing this myself. If I had some any experience with transmissions or more time then I would think about it but its not looking likely at the minute.

Are the gear steady rod's interchangeable between the 1.9d and the 1.3 MPI? Seems to be several diesels breaking on ebay currently.

Think so yeah. I've got a 1.6 one sat on the shed floor if you need one.

Very possibly Steve, got one breakers yard who said they will have a look but their response time is not looking hopeful. I'll drop you a pm tomorrow if I need it, Thanks.

Yes they are interchangable, but there is more than one type of fitting used at the gearbox end, however you can just change the entire thing if it's a different type.

Having got the linkage off I was able to have a look at the original failure and it seems that its the small joint in front of the lever that's gone .

Is this part replaceable separately? It seems that it may be,  If so what's it called so I can start looking for one.

I don't want to chip in and dilute Pinguisgod's post or go totally off topic, but this knackered assembly looks like it could have benefited from some lubrication.

2 questions.

1. Is this part open to the elements or "sealed for life"

2. For the benefit of other forum users. Is it possible to "lube" this assembly as part of preventative maintenance? to prevent what we see in the photo??
