Maybe going to buy one?

Featured Replies

Hey Guys,

as you can see below, im a mk1 Octy driver,

My father in law and I are planning on getting my wife a new(er) car for her 30th at the end of the month.

currently she's ina 1.4l Peugot 206 - 2007.

been down the local Skoda dealer (good reputation, and a very good head mechanic in house)

they have a 132 plate (2nd half 2013) Citgo with 8000km on it.

1l mpi petrol.

Took it for a spin, and its a surprisingly nippy, quiet little thing

much better than i thought it would be tbh.

just wondering though, whats it like to live with?  what kinda things could i expect to have happen/go wrong?

she only drive about 5mls to and from work, mostly in town,

occasional middle distance drive <80mls each way for work meetings and stuff.

anything else we'd be taking the Octy anyway.

Best thing is to scan through the Citigo forum and make your own mind up.

The main gripe seems to be the gearbox/clutch noise on a number of cars. Apart from that its seems to be very positive.

Best thing I would say is to get her to drive it and see her reaction?

For a 5 mile drive to and from work, mainly in town, I would say that you couldn't really pick a much better car than the Citigo.

Very nippy off the mark to zip out of junctions, warms up quickly, fantastic on fuel and is amazingly comfy for a small car.

Also, you would be surprised how well they are on the motorway, cruising at 70mph (or slightly more... ahem) is a pleasure

Obviously, you need to adapt your driving style if you want performance, such as keeping momentum up hills and overtaking, but from the sounds of it, you will primarily in town centres so in my opinion the Citigo should be right up there with the best of the city cars.

As for living with one, its relatively hassle free, apart from as Owens mentioned, some people have a slight noise on gearbox/clutch which is more annoying than anything mechanical

I don't think you would regret it if you plump for the Citigo, great small cars :)

whats the spec? S, SE or elegance

probably save a fair bit on road tax, after what I heard from a taxi driver last year when I was in Dublin, and probably a few extra mpg as well

at 96g / km

A2 More than 80g/km up to and incl 100

€180

which should be about half you are paying for the puegoet

and fuel consumption between 4 and 5l per 100km probably better as well, the little 3cylinder lump warms up very quick so should return better mpg than the larger 1.4 puegoet

find an excuse to take her down and have a look without giving the game away, if you can sort a test drive for her

ours is great, only niggles tend to be the clutch click on a number of cars

does it come with the PID? as they are usefull gadgets, media player, handsfree, sat nav and great display if you have parking sensors fitted

Mine is brilliant for town driving which is stop start half of my journey to work getting average mid to late 50mpg so I think she would love it :)

CitiGo's are actually better than Sliced Bread

Unless you own another Skoda model and then they are slow, dont handle and have numb steering. :-P

Seriously though, for what you want it for it sounds ideal and you would struggle to get anything better.

Go for it!!!

Agreed with everything said already. As a petrol head I tried loads of small cars from new to second hand, came back to the Citigo. My biggest mistake was going to Goodwood Festival of Speed last year, saw the Sport and had to have one.

Drove an "S" spec for 24 hours, loved it. They can't be classed as quick, 60 or 75 bhp just isn't going to be but plenty nippy enough, great on fuel, sweet engine and gearbox, great at parking etc. But the main thing, it puts a smile on my face when I drive it and when I park it up I always look back at it, a bit like what you'd do with a Ferrari.

Your wife won't regret it.

5 miles each way?

I'd get a bicycle :)

On a serious note you won't be disappointed with one they're just great little cars.

Sent from my PID using Tapatalk

Only had mine about 4 weeks but very pleased with it :)

Some people forget it's called a Citigo for a reason. For what it was intended it's brilliant.

thanks Guys, think the main thing is going to be what they offer on the trade tbh.

Its an ex demo, but the lower spec - no satnav etc.

It does feel tidy, didnt notice any clutch noise when i test drove it.

Tbh i think shed know straight away if i suggested a low key test drive...

game would up as soon as i indicated to swing into the dealers!!

can you not go on the pretext of swapping you Octavia? and see if she looks at the citigo?

but I notice you've only had it 2 years

she knows well id not swap the Octy for a smaller car, need the boot space for moving stuff and work gear around, plus the milage i can end up doing, shed know it makes no sense.

Her dad has been down and sorted the deal, so shes getting it :)

I'll post a couple of pics once its all official and i have the Octy washed :)

Could you not go pretending to look at another Octavia/yeti and see if she is drawn to a Citigo?

My Better half would have to be involved or I would be in more trouble than I usually am??????

Again, luckily she and her dad get on so well that she'll forgive us after a couple of days.

TBH im willing to risk the wrath if it gets hr out of that horrid 206 with its horrid french clutch and gearbox and tiny little pedals,

that even my size 8 1/2 ft feet feel too big for...

Hee hee... T - 3hrs to the hand over, and then there'l 2 Skodas outside the house

Your wife will love it so much she'll wish her journey to/from work was longer !

Good news.... She Likes it!!!!!

Havent taken it for a spin yet, as its was mid party, and gone dark,

but the reaction is positive :)

So, heres the trade off... shes got a shiny car with lower running costs, and im going to spend double the time on Briskoda, as i now have 2 owners forums to keep tabs on!!! its a win win :giggle:
