noise when starting from standing still...

Featured Replies

Now that i got the folding mirrors fixed i have a new question! :)

When i take off, from standing still, and at the same time turning the car makes a noise. For example when you have stopped at at stopsign and you are going to turn left/right.When i let of the clutch and give it some gas (and turning) the car "hums/howl" until i let of the clutch completely. Its only makes this noise when i start with 1st gear and turning (i think 2nd gear to if turning with a little bit more speed).

The sound is hard to explain. It´s not metallic och any kind of "crunching" sound.

Any ideas?

My 2009 Superb (TDI, manual) has similar symptoms since end of last summer. Skoda garage confirmed there is some noise when maneuvering, but everything seems to be fine with undercarriage and bearings. Problem is certainly not related to worn tyres either. So we agreed that I will come back to them when noise is getting worse. Somehow during colder weather period it was less noticable, but now in spring it has gradually got worse. Reminds sound of fog-horn. I´ve got feeling that slight humming noise from front is now hearable also when driving straight on certain higher speeds (~95kph). In few weeks time when studded tyres are replaced with summer tyres, I will book my car to garage again for deeper investigation. Could it be anything related to power-steering?

Is the humming noise you are referring to coming from any particular side of the car?  Funny, I have noticed a slight humming noise that I can't pinpoint and I only have 6,000kms on the car.  Its only noticeable above 100kph and seems to be coming from the front left.  Tyres and tracking etc checked and ok.  I thought it was the 18" tyres but not sure now.

No any particular side. Just low-frequency noise from somewhere in the front, when maneuvering in 1st/2nd or reverse gear and wheels turned out > 50% (doesn´t matter right or left).

First thing I'd do is check my power steering fluid level.

Power steering fluid in a Superb MK 2 ? LOL Have you checked yours recently?

I know its extremely hard to explain what a noise sounds like but if its just there when releasing the clutch then release bearing is what you look at first .

Nope, never had a moment's problem with my power steering.
