I'm going to have to bring it to at least one trackday, just to lean how to tail slide it away from the public road! you are welcome to a drive, but its only insured for me on the classic policy, so you need the "drive other cars" on your insurance, then you can crack on :) I have only done it because I have the space (just) and hope it will be worth at least £5k when done .... (maybe 5 years from now?) it will be restored to ORIGINAL spec.... no modding ;)

Well it's on my policy so we'll have to see ;)

yup, if you both have the "drive other cars" you are welcome to have a drive (carefully! lol) I'm sure we'll all get together soon :)

A very interesting thread. I definitely fancy an MX5 as a weekend car and a good one would be hard to beat, but there's definitely plenty to avoid.

it was a bit of a minefield out there, so many circa £500 with short MOT's...... I took my time to find one with a history I could trace, and get knowledge of what was done..... the dreaded rot is the thing!

get a solid one, and all should be well!

I wish I had the space for a project like this. Look forward to seeing it evolve

Nice!

Looks like a nice project and a lot of fun too Dave.

Looks great Dave. Good luck with the restoration :)

Looks nice, tidy project you have there :)

Very nice Dave.

In the tyre place having new tyres on my new ( original fit) alloys , will post pictures shortly :)

these are the new wheels, original daisy's... however the wheel nuts are wrong, and so big I cannot get my centre caps on! will need some new wheel nuts.....

these wheels came with 20 year old pirelli P600's... they dont make them anymore, put the wheels on, and the car felt dangerous! got 4 nice toyo CF1's which have great reviews, for £50 each fitted from local tyre place :)

car is now at my newly adopted mechanics place (local place for local people) to get the final bit of welding finished, and a bit of rustproofing on the existing welding! Here is the hole... I'll post some pictures when I get the car back :)

Awesome Dave, it's going to look stunning when you've finished.

Good stuff. I like the fact you've gone for the standard wheels :)

I'm going to make it all original, so it will be a very rare unmolested standard car in a few years time :) I need to sort the interior, its a v-spec import... it needs wooden wheel/ handbrake and gear lever, and tan dash ect :)

most I will do for "mods" will be unseen, a panel filter to help with the already awesome sound, and maybe some braces to stiffen the chassis... no more :) hope to have it factory spec :)

ordered some nuts! lol... will post proper wheel pics when I can get the center caps on :)

All I want to know is have you had full throttle opposite lock on yet?  :D

  • Author

lots of full throttle, wow... the noise it makes between 5,000 - 7,200 revs is amazing :) no sideways action apart frm a few twitches out of junctions yet... still learning the car, taking it slowly ;)

  • Author

doesn't even have ABS! lol....
