Rear Door Supports

Featured Replies

Got a prob with the above, they've stopped working, any suggestions, re replacement sources etc part numbers, can't find my Elsa disc as have just changed my laptop the hdd failed and info is therein!

Tony, do you mean the "thing" that stops them opening out too far?

If so, have they been oiled/greased ever?

I think he probably means tailgate gas struts?

Sorry about response delay, a rather late birthday family thing in exotic Broceliande(Arthurian legends abound, reputedly same the tomb of Merlin?????

o, tailgate gas struts, whilst have had some probs with 'stiff' opening Thursday a pop, they still worked, but Friday am nothing, just trying to clarify new struts or the whole thing

? and how do the struts demount the pins?

New struts are easy to obtain and fairly easy to fit.

There are clips to prise off at each end and then fairly obvious what to do IIRC.

Replace them one at a time as the door is heavy when no struts are on

New struts will be fully extended and you have to hold the door up at the same time when fitting them.

^^^This^^^

I would recommend using a prop with the tailgate fully open, because even with one removed the boot will be very heavy.

Thanks guys, - struts, vehicle specific or will others from the skoda stable fit?

I'd take the part number from the strut-it will be available fro many VAG applications no doubt-they are a generic item but the part number will denote the open and closed length and the load rating.Sometimes they "revive" for a bit if you prop the door up and leave them extended and not under load for a time.

Thanks, tried that, but no, completely kn*ckered

This company manufactures Gas Springs, The site might need updating because they list nearly everything but not the Yeti.

Must be worth a call it says they can match the OEM part numbers. some struts are listed for about £12.99 each.

SGS are great, they did me a bespoke gas strut for a drawing tank and it took less than 48 hours from phoning them to having the strut delivered.
