Rear Brake Trouble (includes video)

Iv bin having a high pitch screech coming from n/s rear brakes at low speeds (under 30mph)

 

So i took the wheel off, hit the caliper with a hammer (not too hard) just incase the piston was stuck hoping if it was that it would free it. I rotated the disc to find it spins freely in one area then really tight in another. Any ideas? Video below.

only been on 6k! Not sure what brand they are. Iv only had it a week so the previous owner had them fitted. Do you reckon my calliper is OK then?

Ive read stories about discs warping after less than half that due to not bedding in properly...

which is a rather... contentious debate at times...

Dam. well im gonna strip them down 2moz and take a closer look before i go out and buy disc n pads for it.

if its gone far enough to be rubbing on the pad, you'll know pretty quick when you take it off...

ie if you put it on the ground once its off, you'll see the space where its bent.

check pads,the spring might get outside in the caliper gap,so the pad would not sit properly....I've seen that many times.

Thats true actually. Ill update 2moz on what I find. Suspect it will probably be the disc.

Calipers are also a bit famous for sticking but that suggests a deformity on the disk?

This is happening when the spring escapes and can;t hold the pad in the caliper

So the pads have been put in wrong or they could be faulty? I dont understand how it wouldn't cause it to stick to the disc all the time tho?

Exactly why i went disc not pads, from watching the vid you posted, its the same place on each revolution thats sticking,

if it was as julian said, id still be looking to the disc for deformity causing spot sticking

OK so stripped the rear brakes down. Pads were correctly fitted and springs were fine, calipers seem to be ok so can only put it down to the discs being at fault. Iv built it back up and the noise is still there, not as loud tho that probably because they have been cleaned? Im getting rumble in the steering wheel and pedal under braking so this could be linked to the rear discs and possibly the fronts? I took the front wheels off and they looked ok but deffo something cuz the steering is shaking under braking. Think i might just bite the bullet and change the lot in one hit. What do u guys reckon?

 

Also found this... guess thats why my handbrake has so much travel

All octy handbrakes look like that.

What on the ****? I thought one side was stretched?

Nope. If you take off the whole plastics around the handbrake lever youll see its down to the angle it comes in the car. One cable is longer than the other.

Bonus thought i had more work on my hands lol!

You can adjust it with a 10mm spanner using the nut in your picture
